Budget IKBS flippers

If you don't mind CRKT this one is as smooth as any IKBS folder I own. (and I have them from 500 dollars down) It has plastic washers and I can't believe how easy it flips. Comes in about 80 bucks. I don't think there's anything out there 100 & under with bearings other than the Ripple.

I've been lusting after this knife and your photography only makes me want it more. I know it's been said before, but you have a damn fine hand with a camera.

Boker Kwaiken has issues it seems....

Boker Kwaiken and 5 minutes on the belt.

Yeah, it's cool enough looking that I've thought about doing that. The only problem is that dropping the tip a hair would be the best fix, but that would ruin the beautiful straight line it has. Just shortening it without dropping it wouldn't fix the issue, as the new tip would still be pretty much flush with the handle . . .

Nothing that 5 minutes on a belt and a basic understanding of how to center the blade won't fix.

The guy is saying the thumb disc is way too close to the handle. How is a belt grinder and centering the blade gonna fix that? Besides it isn't a flipper, it doesn't even have one.

I apologize for misunderstanding you. I took "is as smooth as any IKBS folder I own" to mean that it both is an IKBS folder and is as smooth as all of the ones you own. If I said that a particular Devil's food cake was "as tasty as any cake I've ever eaten" it would be understood that the Devil's food cake was, in fact, cake.

Jill was pretty clear in what she said. No need to justify your mistake.

Budget IKBS flippers = oxymoron.

Make it a flipper, and centering the blade properly horizontally and vertically will keep the tip from nipping on accident.

Also reading more about the issues, seems this knife's tip can stick you when closed as well as it can slice you from below when closed. (inbetween the handle where it's open) Centering the blade is going to fix this how?

I read your thread in the Boker forum, Nevermore and seems you grind the frame to make it a flipper? If you modded one could you post a picture so we can see what you're talking about?

The tip getting you when it's closed is what can be addressed by centering it properly. I've also read about some people having problems with the edge and the back of the handle when it's closed, but I've not been able to replicate that, either with my average fingers or my wife's very slender fingers. Here's a couple of not great pics showing the flipper mod, and I'll even throw in a short video comparing trying to open with the thumb disc vs. the flipper.

That is a tiny flipper but it seems to work. Funny the customs have a flipper, but the Bokers don't.

The odd part (to me), is that the only thing necessary to make it a flipper is the removal of approximately 1/4" from one corner of the frame, something that would add exactly nothing to the cost or complexity to produce, but makes for a much better finished product.

I wouldn't want to flip with the tang. Sounds like an easy way to tear the hell out of your thumb. I would prefer a dedicated flipper for ease of use.

Flips easier than most of my dedicated flippers, including my Hinderer. Not sure how you'd flip it with your thumb though.
