Hey y'all, I'm looking into picking up a "budget" knife and was just wondering which one y'all prefer. Right now I'm primarily considering the Byrd Raven 2 or the Civivi Baklash. Would love to hear what y'all think about these guys and what other options you might enjoy. Cheers!

Civivi is amazing quality for the money, my Statera is very, very good for sub $70

I'd recommend the Ka-Bar Dozier Folding Hunter. Both the regular and mini versions. They cost less than $20, and are great knives with amazing utility and functionality, and very light. They are also durable, with very secure locks.

The most common folding hunter comes with a thumb stud, but I prefer the one with the thumb hole, which is what I have. Here is a pic.

Here is the Ka-Bar Mini Dozier

The Ka-Bars are tried and tested. Many people love them, and they are famous for being incredible knives for their price.

Of course, Opinels are also a great option. In fact you could get this full set for a little over $100. This was a surprise Christmas gift from my wife, and I love my Opinels.

Got a Civivi Stratera a few weeks backs and was very impressed by the build quality at a $68 price point. Action is very nice, no blade play, solid lockup and IMO a beautiful knife. D2 works very good and holds an edge nicely, especially at that price point.

The Kershaw Nura comes in two sizes -- a 3” blade for $17 and a 3 1/2” blade for $20. I doubt there are any more budget-oriented flippers than them. They aren’t the best flippers I have and the actions don’t inspire praise, but the prices are hard to argue with. I keep the big one in a bicycle handlebar bag and the little one in a daypack pocket. The best thing about them is that if either gets rusted or I lose one or both of them, I won’t feel any anguish. They’re perfectly cast in the roles they play in my world.

Avoid the clones, copies and homages.and you should be pretty solid. Those are good brands right there. The we knives ones are going to be a bit better than the Byrds. But still both solid choices. Try and avoid Amazon and eBay for knives due to rampant clones.

Take a look at the CRKT Cuatro. Smoothest, easiest well made flipper I've owned. I also like the Kershaw Atmos.

I bought a Civivi Statera last week for about $70 and I absolutely love it. It is smooth, very slicey, and in a great steel. I would say the Civivi brand will be overall very high quality fit and finish wise on the budget side of things, as well as your Ontario Rat 1 or 2, which are both stellar knives in their own regard! Lastly, the Kershaw Atmos is very nice as stated above. It's from an awesome designer, it cuts well and flips with authority. The downside is that the steel is 8CR13, but it's a $30 knife, so the price is pretty good.

Best two budget knives out there IMO is
1) Ontario Rat 2
2) Kershaw Injection 3.5 ($15!!!!)

these two right here are both solid choices - and the kershaw injection 3.0 if you want a slightly smaller knife (and price) if you can find them.

The Civivi backlash is one heck of a budget folder. Another one I really like is the Statgear Ausus.

As others have said Civivi is an awesome choice. I have a Praxis that's 9Cr18MoV with steel bearings for $42.50 and I just bought a Civivi Wyvern which is D2 and steel bearings for $49.30. I love the Wyvern, honestly even though it's early, I think it's my favorite $50 folder I've ever had. The fit and finish for $50 is awesome. You might also look at the ABKT Scavenger if you want something for the $30 mark, it's also D2 and steel bearings though the fit and finish isn't as nice as the Civivi line.

Spyderco Ambitious, Persistence or Tenacious. Pick a size to meet your need. I have one of each. They have proven to be durable and reliable.

My personal reigning favorite "budget friendly" knife is my kershaw scrambler. Stout, robust, classy, and simple pratical drop point design. Slightly on the heavy side because it is steel and not Ti, but part of what keeps the price down.
I also happen to have it in my pocket today.

They can still be found for around $25.
