Budget Knives

The Steelwill D2's are pretty budget friendly and well made. Almost everyone that has gotten one really likes them.
I may have to look into one of the Civivi's as I am just not familiar with them.
As mentioned, the Kabar Dozier folding hunter is a great value. Have owned several and given them away to kids.
If you like slip joints, the Red Ryder slip joints are a great value. Well made and predictable quality knife to knife.
Take a look at the RAT folders. Another good value.

I guess it really depends on what you consider "budget." For me, that's under $100.

Once you've got that figured, there are a lot options.

What are using it for?
Is there a specific steel requirement?
Size?
Modern, traditional, SAK?
Thumbstuds, flippers, Spydie holes, or combo.
Plain edge, full or partial serrations

The list goes on...

I'll second Opinel. Kinda feel like they're solidly placed in budget territory but not short on value. Nothing fancy, just a knife to do jobs that a knife should do. No 8, 9 or 10 are great sizes for EDC and right around $25 or less shipped.

These are a few budgets that I picked up before the holidays. Prices from $10-$25 each. Kershaw, Schrade, Real Steel, & Opinel.

And depending on where the OP's line is drawn for the term "budget", I think maybe the Massdrop Falcon/Crux/Gent could even fall under that category ($80-$125). Subjective I know, but rang my "bang for the buck" bell.

Edit: Correction - The second from the right was incorrectly marked as a Steel Will, but actually a Real Steel.

Cold Steel makes some very nice budget knives, as well. I particularly like the Tuff Lite. However, they make a variety of knives from $16 to $55 in steel choices of 4116, 8Cr, AUS 8A, AUS 10A, and BD1 (my favorite as it is well balanced).

Check out the Boker Kalashnikovs over at BladeHQ if autos are legal where you live.

They are excellent sub-40.00 knives made of AUS 8 steel with aluminum scales. I particularly love the Desert Warrior color scheme.

Take a look at the CRKT Cuatro. Smoothest, easiest well made flipper I've owned. I also like the Kershaw Atmos.
Rich

The Cuatro is an alright knife, but has been soundly kicked to the curb by my MD Gent. In the $40 range, the quality you get from Civivi is amazing. I have the Praxis, and it’s a sweet blade. Could easily sell for 50% more than it does.

Spyderco tenacious even a delica or endura on the sale forum can be had at a decent price.
Ontario rat1/2 or utilitac 2.
Ka-bar dozier
Kershaw blur
Are the ones that come to mind.

Lots of choices, the Ontario Rat2 in D2 is my pick. I also picked up a CS pro lite for $21
Not my idea of a edc knife but a solid choice . Remember most of the knives here can be found cheap with a little shopping .

I have to second D dsalazar 's suggestion. All of these are fine knives for the money. I own/owned most of these at one time or another. The ones I haven't owned, I have had chances to use or at least handle. I think the Endura is the only exception on the list.

At this time, I own both Rat 1 and 2. You get a great knife at a decent price.

I got this one for like 10 bucks, give it some time to break in.

After a fair bit of research I mail ordered a Ruike p801 and an Opinel No8. Total with shipping under $49, if I'd chosen blackwash instead of satin for the Ruike it would have been $53 I believe.
Not the place for a review but both exceed my expectations and were well worth the money.

The 801 is nicely styled. If they offered it in G-10...

Yeahhhhhh fully agree.
I'll probably give this one away to a friend eventually or maybe I'll try and mod it for texture.
It's slick but that is slightly offest by a handle almost perfectly shaped - I'd prefer if the finger curve (choil?) was deeper.
It's heavy but for it's size I have edc'd worse. I'd give the deep carry clip a 9, maybe 9.5 out of 10, I've seen some wire clips with a double dip (Spyderco) that seemed better; but this pockets extremely well for it's size and weight.

The Becker / KA-BAR BK-14 is inexpensive... But it's a BEAST with the factory zytel handles on it.

Carry in a pocket sheath, or crossdraw....

I purchased. CRKT Fossil a while back, and I'm amazed at it's smoothness. It's the best knife in it's price range that I've ever owned.

I got my son one of those for Christmas last year and he loves it. Never leaves home without it. We all got a knife that Christmas, which was a first.

The top knife in the photo is my son’s Fossil, middle knife is my Kizer Intrepid, bottom one is the Byrd Crossbill my wife picked out.
