OK, The tooth fairy was good to you and you have a budget of $600 to buy ONE knife. Repeat ONLY ONE ?:grumpy: knife max budget $600. Which one would you choose. Knife to be an EDC folder. I know which one I ordered but which would you choose

EDC folder - why a Kit Carson Model 4 of course! When you only have one, you need the best :D

I also have a Terzoula ATCF in Desert Ironwood that would fill that role "knicely" :) along with a Decorated Sebenza but, there are many makers who are capable of filling this need with a superb knife. A lot would depend on where your EDC occurs. As a soldier in some distant land or, in downtown Los Angles, I am apt to prefer distinctly different knives.

Urban environment to serve as a suit and tie as well as a jeans EDC but not necessarily tactical.

I'm with Sid.

If there you had only one choice. . .it would be a Kit Carson knife ! Just can't go wrong with a Carson Model 4. A small will work for both jeans or buisness suit.

Terzuola is another sweet. Personally, I think the ATCF is rather large (at 4") for a business suit. I'd go more with a TTF-4, TTF-5, TTF-6 or Farina Special.

Elishewitz is another superb knife-maker. I love his Khan, Kaiser & Emperior line of knives (blade length on the small is 2.75 and 3.5 on the large).

Greg Lightfoot. . .LCC, Supressor, or Max Velocity !

Another maker that you might want to take a look at. . .Larry Chew.

Howz bout Jason Jacks. His Raptor line is very nice !

Michael Vagnino & Don Maxwell are two more to hunt down.

Hope this helps. :D

You couldn't go wrong with a Carson as well as some of the other makers mentioned, but my next knife from Kit is going to be a Fixed Blade.

For a folder in that price range My Short List would be; a PJ Tomes slipjoint, a JW Smith or Tim Herman now makes Utility knives in that price range.

I think Mayo and Onion are out of the price range but the rest are great. Come on guys and gals time to let me know what kind of knife you drool about, what is on your short list for a $600 folder.

Mark,
Forgot to say thank you for posting all those links. It is a lot of work and I just wanted to let you know that it is appreciated

Snody dressed up Resistor: Damascus blade , fancy scales, engraved bolsters , jeweled liners. Oh hell , I blew my budget but it is just what I have ordered . Will the tooth fairy loan me a little extra ?;)

Jerry,

I do admire your taste. Call the tooth fairy and arrange for oral surgery, and he might make the loan. I'll put in a good word for you.

Thanks for the support . LOL!! I would settle for one like this to stay in budget . Not that it is shabby .

I know the pic. looks blurry but my browser will blow it up on my end to look cleaner . Sorry if anyone gets stuck with the fuzzy picture .

I use a Carson small M4 as my edc and cann't think of a knife that would work better. I am really looking hard at JW Smith, and Mike O, Kits son inlaw. Both have really nice knives, and they look like they would fit my needs well.

As a maker, I carry one of my own slipjoints or occasionally one of my Linerlocks, but assuming it isn't alowed to be one I made:

Anything in the price range with jigged bone or sambar stag slabs...a 1, or 2, or 3 blade slipjoint by Gene Shadley, or Tony Bose, or Reese Bose, or Terry Davis, or Tom Overeynder, or Don Morrow, or Joe Kios, or Joel Chamblin, or Jess Horn....and I'm leaving a lot of great makers out. See I'm easy to please, just a good ol' handmade slipjoint for EDC by a top maker makes this fellow happy.
Did some business with a fellow recently who has carried the same Tony Bose single blade clip point slipjoint for over 15 years...the knife still walks and talks like a champion...and looks great!

Stay Safe,

My choice would be one of the following:

Scott Cook Lochsa,
Kit Carson M16 A1,
Tony Bose trapper,
Anything that I could get from Des Horn for $600.00.

If it has to be just one that would be the Scott Cook Lochsa,

Even though I grew up with slip joints I always seem to forget about them. Man are they expensive. If I could find two Jess Horn's for under $600 each I could probably finance my knife habit for a year...OK maybe 6 months.

my choice would be a Carson, medium size. m4, m16, m18, m21 not important. Just give me a medium with stellite blade, ti bolsters, and carbon fiber or canvas micarta scales.

JR

I have to say that the knives of Tom Anderson have really impressed me lately. If I was going to spend 600 dollars on a knife He would be the guy I spend it on. The Lochsa also has me intrigued, but it just isn't pretty enough.
