Budget stow-away blade (FAK,BOB,etc)

JCKT makes good points about use. I'm posting to point out that interchangeable blades aren't the only way to guarantee a hair-popping edge. When that blade is reserved for emergency use, it's not losing the edge you stored it with. My Al Mar Payara is razor sharp at all times for this reason.

The moral: if you're designating an emergency blade, interchangeable or emergency-only designation are two things to consider.

Very good point! The interchangeable blade idea came to me when thinking about ways to avoid cross contamination as well, but you are absolutely correct if you have an emergency only blade that is razor sharp you wont need to worry about dulling it beforehand.

I have both a BK11 and an Ontario RAT 1 in my kit. The Becker is made in the US, while the rat 1 is not. Between those two I can pretty much take care of anything

How about this...I use a serrated knife at work and you would be really surprised how well they cut...since your putting it in a car kit it maybe something to try out..!!!! I'm sure if you shop around you can find one around $40 bucks..Even when my work knife gets dull it still cuts pretty good...and i've sharpened a few serrated knife and its not that hard ..!!!!
