Buffalo Horn / Ox Horn / Bull Horn Handles ... Post 'em Up

That is quite the chunk of horn on that yataghan. What is the length of that handle? Do you have close up pictures of the horn? Is it jet black all the way around?

Great looking knives everybody. Each one is more beautiful than the last. Keep them coming.

The handle is a bit over five inches in length. Here's some additional pics - unfortunately I am a consistently lousy photographer. The horn is black and highly polished. It is hard for me to get a pic without shiny bits and reflections. The buffalo was taken in the wild in the Northern Territory of Australia (not by me).

Thanks for the follow up 2manyknives. That is a very impressive piece.

Beautiful knives, clutchcarter. I especially like that EO 85.

Extremely nice item that Capuchadou, rinos. Ram's Horn is impressive stuff much favoured by European makers for centuries, not surprisingly.

Here's my locking Laguiole in Ram's Horn also from Fontenille-Pataud:

This is a question that I have looked for a good answer to , but have not found yet . Maybe you guys can help.
I have 2 Taylor Eye Witness Barlows . One with Ox Horn and one with Rams Horn handles . Do you suggest using Mineral Oil on the Handles ?

Harry

ol' engineer, I am far from an expert...in fact don't even have a horn handled knife, but I do have one coming in, Tidoute teardrop so am interested in any answers. But from my reading I would be hesitant to use mineral oil on those scales as they just might darken and those scales are beautiful. I plan on using some lanolin based hand lotion.

Thank you very much for the reply : I have read in some place that I can not remember to use mineral oil and in another place to use lanolin. Still not decided what I will use.

Got this Buffalo horn beauty from my father for Christmas! I'm currently deployed, so I haven't even gotten to hold her in my hands! Can't wait.

Gotta love those deep black horns with swirls of colors. It's awesome that every one is unique looking. Here is my only horn knife, just got it a few days ago for Christmas. 2014 Tuna Valley, Fish Scaler

Here's one you don't see every day. It's an old traditional Italian pattern, but with a modern build. It's a friction folder with a double sided ball detent.
