Buffer got me....

I agree with you to an extent Shane Justice...any distractions can cause problems. As I don't smoke, I can't answer regarding the cigar. Wives/girlfriends definately can cause a dangerous distraction! Both my wife and our children know that rule #1 is if they hear daddy's grinder or his buffer going, they do NOT walk in the shop...I try to concentrate so hard on the task at hand that anyone coming in will literally startle me...so they know to just wait till the grinder or buffer is turned off before asking hubby/daddy for money to go to the movies or shopping!

Thanks for the comments, y'all take it easy.

i fine that a higher RPM buffer, while having more retained energy to throw tings at incredible speed, is much, much less likely to grab a blade. The higher speed causes the wheel to float over the surface of the steel rather than allowing the steel to sink into the wheel. This is when the wheel wraps around the edges of the steel, and grabs it out of your hands. That and it will burnish the steel much better. Really sealing the surface. Which is what a full mirror polish is for in the first place. Not for the looks. but to protect the steel.

Ok......I' haven't even used my buffer which I have had for 6months because I have been scared of it. I had pretty much decided that I would only use it to strop the burr off edges but now I am not even sure about that.......anyone want to buy a never used 3/4 hp 1800 rpm Baldor with the stand?
