buffer rigged as disk grinder?

I was looking into getting a horizontal disk grinder but since I wouldn't use it that much I didn't want to buy a complete outfit. Then I was thinking whether I could attach a 9" disk to the end of a buffer arm. I have a 3/4 hp (1800 rpm) baldor. I would need some kind of adapter to convert the threaded end of the buffer arm to a standard driveshaft in order to attach the disk. Is this possible? or would it not run true? or is this just an absurd idea altogether.

If I understand your dilemma correctly, the device you need to convert the threaded arm might be met by buying a replacement drill chuck and screwing it onto the thread...I did this with an old motor I had with a threaded shaft and it works great for anything you could attach to a drill chuck.
