Anyone have any experience with the Shop Fox Buffer sold by Grizzly. I have been considering upgrading the arbor on my current buffing system with it. The one I have is really old and lacks good clearance. I know the way to go would be a Baldor but I would like to save the cash!

Bump.
Specifically, what RPM have any of you ran it at? The fine print in what appears to be an older model's user manual indicates a max rpm of 1725. I run my (very) old v-belt 6" arbor grinder at about 3000.

3000RPM is crazy fast for a V-belt arbor.

I prefer buffers between 1100RPM and 1750RPM. I have one that goes to 700RPM on the slow setting.
High speed buffers are not safe for knifmaking, IMHO.

Completely agree with Stacy on this one. 3000 rpm is WAY too fast or a buffer. The buffer is probably the most dangerous tool in my shop. I bought the "knifemaker" buffer from Grizzly (1hp, and a max of 1750 RPM), and have been very happy with it. It's worked a lot since I've gotten it, and hasn't skipped a beat.
