My Buffer

1750 rpm
5/8 arbour

I've been using and enjoying the blue lighting "no scratch" compound which is a replacement for the pink no scratch.

I want to invest into more buffing for finishing blades.

I'd like some advice/guidance/opinions
before start dropping cash.

I'm looking at the spinal sewn extra thick 1"wide wheels

6" or 8" wheels?

Will the smaller wheel work better or the bigger?

What is a good compound progression to stack?

Black-White-Blue-green-red?

I realize the colors aren't universal to the grit and performance.

Does anyone use scotchbrite wheels for flat grinds even if they have scotchbrite belts?

If anyone can share their experience I'd be very grateful.

Shawn.

Alright, I'm thinking

an 8" sisal wheel with formax black magic

A 8" treated cotton wheel with Tripoli Brown compond

A 8" loose cotton wheel with Green compond

A 8" domet flannel with formax blue lightening.

Any one else here buffing? any thoughts?

6" wheels will give you less SFM, but since you're already at 1750RPM, 8" shouldn't be a problem. I generally stay away from loose sewn buffs since they tend to grab more, but they certainly have their place for the finer polishing.
I do normally double up my 1/2" wide wheels for a 1" buff, so starting off with a 1" wheel would be my preference as well.

Where are you getting your buffing wheels/compounds?

Trugrit for compounds
Caswell for wheels

Is there an advantage to the smaller wheel?
