Buffing over a laser etched logo

I was going to polish and put together a fillet knife from a blank for a buddy but when I got the blank I discovered that it has a logo. After looking at it, I kinda like the logo, and don't want to wipe it out, but I do want to smooth and polish the blade to a higher degree than the current (180 grit maybe) level.

How much buffing would a laser etched logo take before being wiped out? None? A little? A lot?

I'd start with hand sanding, you might find you get to 600 grit and like the way it looks. It'll also give you a slower progression to see how much the logo can take.

I would tape over the logo, cut the tape so it's the shape of the logo.
Any surface removal will remove the logo, or make it less visible.

My initial intention was to hand sand it, but the logo was a surprise when I received the blank. I figured hand sanding would wipe it out quick but I might be able to get away with some buffing.

Oh well, another reason to spend more time learning to grind my own blanks. The very thin steel for fillet blades has really kicked my butt every time I have tried thus far...I couldn't hold an even grind the length of the blade. I have a lot less trouble with 1/8" stock and shorter blades, but I've still got a long way to go to get the long thin stuff under control.
