introducing the BUG hawk head.

the brother that grinds these from basic Cold Steel Trail Hawks for me is a true perfectionist.

Shark's Tooth beard.

a little mass taken off the cheeks, to optimize the head's mass and as a touch of complimentary style to the two undercurves that augment the Shark's Tooth on the bit, and the hook-like Penetrator Poll design.

the idea of the Penetrator Poll on the BUG head turned out way beyond expectations - it is still a good poll, but with the extra trimmed off, it has a lot of spike-like characteristics, and improved penetration through hard surfaces.

i can't wait to get these on some sexy black handles.

i thought ya might get a kick out of seeing them.

hope ya like 'em, brethren.

STOP that! I need to save money not spend it - I almost buckled with the last shark-tooth hawks you had, but this one may put me over the edge . . . .

I would say she's a keeper.....Like the lines looks sharp and fast.....
Great idea !

OHHHHH VEC!!! ME likey..Me wants!!! You abso-freakin-rutely must come back and tell when those go up for sale!

they are really sweet in use too, brethren.

remember - the eye is still Cold Steel Spec, so they should fit on stock wooden hafts.

as a matter of fact, and this is untested, i suspect that the improved cheeks might even help hold a little better - dunno for sure though.

we'll try to make them available alone at a very good price, without our composite handles, and then just give ya a credit when ya break down and decide ya need a Gen 1 Mk 4 handle on there. - :cool::thumbup:

if you guys are at all interested, i urge ya to contact my Erica;

ericag@equinoxcoroando.com

thanks for the good words.

now if i could only invent zombies... commies will have to do for now, they are pretty close....

....back to the Hawk Dungeon for me....

I really dig the overall form of those.

I'm ambivalent about the secondary edge on the beard, but I really like the modification to the hammer. Yes indeed.

:thumbup:

you betcha, brother.

i enjoy posting all the pictures and sharing thoughts with you brethren.

i gotta come here and share regularly or i'll pop; no one around here outside of my house understands my hawk problem, except for a few SEALs and Marines - hehehe!

thanks for your thoughts on the matter.

when i first ground out a Shark's Tooth i wanted a sharpened beard that didn't tend to bite my fingers off when i choked up on the hawk, plus it backs that point up stronger than a traditional pointed beard would, and cuts and rips well on the draw, especially if you decide to hone it up.

whatever you do: try not to be distracted by the thoughts of cutting and ripping goodness for the rest of the day. :cool:

This is absolutely beautiful!!!

I really like that idea and these look like they they were crafted to perfection.

You always seem to find a way to make a good product better.
Keep up the good work!!

Good Deal Vec, I got the Feeling these are gonna be a Top Selling Item for us Poor Folk that cant afford a Finely Crafted Composite Handle ! We can still get this Custom Trail Hawk Head "And I got plenty of Hickory Handle's ! Thank's Vec,

Hey Vec, are those shark's tooth beards re-heat treated for edge retention and durability?

If i'm not mistaken those are machined right about up to the start of the hardened steel, so i don't think it got too hot. But that would be my personal opinion after doing something like that on another CS model.

Hey Vec, are those shark's tooth beards re-heat treated for edge retention and durability?

my machinist-brother keeps them cool to the touch, by doing a bunch at a time, and slowly.

the differential temper is almost always about 1.25" back from the leading part of the bit, on all the Trail Hawks I have seen lately, and I have seen many.

the angle of the Shark's Tooth Point is such that it bites into your prey first, and then starts slicing along the Tooth, as wells as up the main part of the bit;

the neck traps and leg hooks with these things are going to be pretty fierce.

i think they'd be pretty interesting to yank salmon out of a rapid with too.

lots of "catch" without much "release" for the poor fishies. :cool:

dang it, now i am thinking about more bush time again.

angles are almost everything IME - i've made knives out of butter-soft 304 stainless that some saltwater fishing buddies swear by, for how sharp they stay.

if one of these bits is any softer than when it came from the factory, i'll eat my hat.

i love 1055 steel.

i've got some serrated bit designs i want to try eventually, that i think are going to work in the part of the chopping spectrum known as "Scary Good."

pray for the humble Hawk Project, brethren!

nice looking head one of my fav trail hawk mods that i have seen

thanks, brother.

my machinist bro is another hawk addict, and we've been friends for a long time; he wanted to get involved with the Hawk Project and we were discussing all the possible mods. i gave him about eight mods i would like, and he came up with about the same for the Trail Hawk, which we love;

i was thinking that doing this many mods this expertly (he apparently knows no other way) would cost so much it wouldn't be worth it, but he insisted i tell him what i thought would be the perfect hawk for me - my tastes tend to be equally field-use in primitive settings and combatives, and this was one of the two main suggestions i had. then he nailed 'em out and it was like Christmas for every buddy all of a sudden. :D:thumbup:

i hope we stick together as a team, the sky's the limit.

thanks for looking!
