Bug Out Bag Light

Wow. I posted the question and only got a few replies. I expected more from flashlight lovers, but oh well.

When I finally checked back, what a difference! Thanks to all, especially S.C.

A box of 12 123A's an a light that has variable output down to single digit lumens and you'll have plenty of light for a LONG time... Unless somehow the event causes 24hr darkness.

Glad I could help! With Costco's lenient return policy, just go ahead and try out those solar lights.

Simplest solution is to get one of these.

That's like recommending someone a single SAK for their BOB. Sure, many people might find it just adequate, but we all know as knife-knuts that's not going to work. I'd much rather have cheaper single AA and single cr123a lights than one of those. As they say, two is one and one is none.

I had one of those crank lights for a while (lost it). It put out enough light to find your way with and had LEDs so I figure it would last for years. I'd probably go with something like that rather than a light I needed daylight to feed. That way if it runs out you can just crank it back up. I usually don't like the idea of depending on the proper conditions to fascilitate my gear. To my understand though I've never really seen any of these crank or solar powered lights that are extremely durable, so I'd always keep a good battery operated flashlight with some extra batteries in a BOB.

On a side note I put the little Inova key fob lighs inside my bags for internal lighting when I need to find stuff in the dark. They last a really long time and are bright enough to find your way with as well. And they're not real expensive. Had good luck with the Photon Fob Lights as well.
