Hi everyone, I've recently started building my B.O.B. I have everything, but I have had trouble finding an ideal knife to keep in my B.O.B. I ordered a Ontario Pilot Survival knife to keep in my B.O.B, but I wanted to know if that would be a ideal knife to keep in it or should I choose another. I wanted a decent priced knife that would get the job done if I need ever arised. I'd like to see what you all think.

Thanks For Reading,

& a 3/4 sized axe.

I have a Mora Scout and Camilous Carnivore. I was looking for a 2 in one type of knife. Something that could chop small limbs for firewood and gut game if needed. I was seeing if anyone else had bought the Ontario Pilot Survival knife to give me the capalbilities of the knife.

Something like an Esee 6 would fit the bill for that. It's long and strong enough to light chopping and batoning, but not too huge for smaller work.

A good one for your needs would be a Victorinox Hunter XT. It has the large saw to make quick work of small limbs. A much better proposition than chopping. It has a gutting blade and a 3.5" main blade and comes with a belt pouch. Even has a Phillips screwdriver. In my survival kit, I keep a Victorinox Hiker and a Marttiini M571 fixed blade. The Marttiini is getting very hard to find and is nearly impossible to beat for many tasks and for the price. The Marttini Timberjack is even better.

Get rid of the "camillus" carnivore and get a real functional carbon steel machete. It will work better, cost less. Camillus went out of business in 2007, now the name is slapped on chinese imports with no connection to the former company.

The Cold Steel SRK is a pretty good knife, although the Carbon V version isn't made anymore.

I have the AUS-8 version and I like mine, it chops ok and batons great. The kraton handle gives very nice retention too.

I don't know exactly why you'd want the pilot knife if space isn't as much of a concern. A larger knife would be better for most applications.

I have no experience with a bolt knife. But plenty of people—including many pilots—have used them and survived real emergencies.

There are lots of variables of terrain and personal skill that might shape your choice in an emergency knife. Once you have more experience, you might refine your knife preference.

In the meantime, any reliable and usable knife is miles better than no knife at all.

The pilot survival knife is not ideal. But it will do the job just fine.

Bk2

Or Bk12/PSK Mark 2

I keep a svord on my "field use" bag lol and that's enough for me. But still.

Or condor sapien, that one stays in my backpack

I'm wish your repost this in the Becker subforoum where Ethan can see it. That'd be cool.

A bk9 took a nice piece of my pinky off

Based on previous post, I should Also mention that I keep a victorinox hunter in that same field bag.

That was a nice recommendation

I was oringinaly thinking about putting my Ka-Bar Navy in with my BOB. Ill have to look around somemore. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I will definetly look into them.

There's no need for a thin Scandi ground blade in a BOB. Get an ESEE 5.

I don't use the pilots knife. But I know people who used them for years & were happy.
When I want a knife that sits in a bag doing nothing most of the time, I go for stainless. Less chance of it being blunt & rusty when needed.

I use a BK16. I feel it is large enough to baton...within reason of its' blade length...small enough for camp, etc. chores, strong enough to hold up to hard use, the steel is easily sharpened and holds an edge well. It is not to big to carry but big enough to get done whatever needs doing.
While I have the 16, any similar quality knife in this category will work also.

I keep a busse team gemini light brigade in a molle sheath on my get out of dodge bag, along with a multi tool and a small crow bar. Along with a good pocket knife it covers the bases I want to cover.

Becker BK10. It can chop, do fine things, is indenstructible, would make a decent fighter and isn't too big and bulky so it would keep your pack light and comes with a sheath that has a molle straps. And it can be had for about $80 shipped. 2nd choice would be a BK9 which is a longer version of the 10.

Mine has optional micarta scales:
