Bugging out by bicycle ...

Hey folks. I'm a couple of days behind on the blog, and it's gonna stay that way for another day I think. I'm near Richardson Grove State Park, where I stayed last night, just south of Benbow, CA. Today's ride will take me over the highest elevation climb of the entire trip, over 1700 feet. I'm already about 500 feet into that here, so hopefully the rest will be manageable. I'm really surprised to have found a business with WiFi here in this little ... non-town. I don't want to delay today's climb .. I really want to get it out of the way and get back to the coast. So I'm not going to take the time today to update the blog. Hopefully I'll have a chance in a day or two, though. The last couple of days have had some interesting stuff to talk about. Keep checking back!

Bye for now!

Thanks for keeping us updated. I actually read all your post last night. It was really fun to read. Hope you stay safe!

"I passed a police car, parked on the opposite side of the road, and the officer in it came on his car's megaphone to announce that "You're doing 14 miles an hour ... down from your high of 19 earlier". I gave him a thumbs up for the useless yet amusing information."

I got a good chuckle out of this!! :)

Stay safe.

You should give Tony G a shout as you're cruising through San Francisco! :D

Sounds like a great tour! I'll be following your blog. Sweet Surly -- my buddy is using a very similar Surly for an Alaska tour we're doing this summer.

I've done a few long tours and you are in for a TREAT and daily adventure. You hit it on the head -- it sure beats going to work! Thanks for keeping us posted.

I thought I'd bump this just once to tell you all that my trip has been completed. I arrived back in Victoria, BC on Friday. I've posted a brief conclusion / summary on my blog.

The trip was truly unbelievable. It was the most amazing experience I've had in my life. I saw so many things in ways most never will, and met countless wonderful people. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, and I'm already considering what destination to aim for on my next tour.

If you've ever considered doing something like this, I encourage you to do it. No regrets. ;)

If the trip itself were not intense enough, my friends in Santa Barbara took me to Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park on my second last day. I went on my very first (and seven subsequent) serious roller coaster(s). Click here to see someone else's video of the first roller coaster I rode. That was also an amazing experience I hope to repeat someday.

I'll be going back to work next week, but I've planned a brief trip to Vancouver for a couple of nights to go see Green Day in concert this weekend, so my vacation isn't quite over yet.

It'll be hard to go back to work after this. I don't know how I'll adjust back to my "everyday" routine. I'm confident of one thing, though ... this experience is going to stay with me. It's changed my perspective in so many ways. I may be going back to the same grind, but I'm not the same person. It should be interesting to see how things are different for it.

Glad you made it back.
I remember reading your first post about this,
Im sure I wasnt the only one who thought
"oh ya,right,um hmmm,sure he is..."
What an adventure!
Missed a bit of your blog, will read it later today.

I must admit, I had doubts myself, early on. Every day I made it closer to my destination, though, it seemed more and more realistic.

Only a few minor scrapes for injuries ... all pretty much healed.
