Hello All!!!

I'm sure there are a few people who have started threads that are the same as this one, but here it goes:

Can you recommend a good Benchmade Bugout alternative?

The bugout is probably my favorite knife. I love the dimensions - blade size (3.24 inch), handle thickness (.42 inch), and closed length (4.22 inch).

Where my request might differ from the other - I am looking for something that is higher quality (nicer, better blade steel, better build, better materials.)

I saw that the Hogue Deka and some other ones but I am not sure what else is out there.

Thanks so much in advance,

Spencer

And, I will suggest the suggestion that was suggested to me, in a similar thread.

Cold Steel Air Lite:

I had a cold steel once upon a time. I though the quality was garbage. Also, they say AUS 10A steel. I'm looking for something nicer - also with nicer scales and hardware.

That's fair. I was thinking of the overall shape and size of the knife. I should probably have read your entire post instead of reading the first two sentences, and jumping right to being That Guy. What can I say? Some habits are hard to break.

FWIW I prefer the atom to the neutron... Neutron was almost too much off a good thing and felt overly thin to me. Seems like they have come down a little lately.
It's funny you say that. I was looking for a Neutron but can't find them anywhere. I didn't really want to pay $300 for a knife that retails for $180. Might just have to sit and wait for one to become available. 😢

I've been looking. New to the forum. They have another batch coming February. Say a prayer.

As mentioned above there are nicer Bugouts available. The new - 4 version is M390 and aluminum. - 3 is cf and S90v. Smkw has one with M4 and g10 and BHQ has 20cv and g10.

I have a - 3 version showing up today.....

You could also get new scales for your version and make it what you want.

Which "Bugout"? The plain jane S30V/G10 scales model or the upgraded M390 model with machined aluminum handles?

Welcome to BF! :)

The Hogue Deka is the first knife that jumped to mind for me. It's not quite as lightweight, but it's darned close.

I've owned an Air Lite, and I didn't wind up loving it. It's also light, but not compared to the Bugout. But going up an ounce from the Bugout does open up a lot of options.

The knife that kicked the Bugout (and the Deka, incidentally) out of my collection was the Shirogorov NeOn NL; whether or not that's a useful suggestion depends on your budget. ;) I also reach for my Pro-Tech Malibu and Demko AD20.5 in the same sorts of situations when I used to reach for a Bugout: light duty, great in shorts, nice and compact, fun to fidget with.

ZT 0450 - 3.25” blade, all ti, S35VN, under 3oz ~ $200
ZT 0460ti 3.25”, 3oz, 20CV, $170
I have a 0450 and the quality is definitely better than the Benchmades I own (griptilians). I think the all titanium handles and the action make them feel more premium.

I agree. I think my ZT0450CF is similar in size/weight to my Bugouts but is nicer (my opinion). Along the same lines my Shiro Hation Zero is nicer still, but also much more expensive (again similar size/weight).

I absolutely LOVE the Shirogorov. Definately my favorite brand. I don't think I can justify the price tag. I also love the Malibu's (even though I can't find them). I wondered if the Demko was too big. It looks very utilitarian.
Also, is Pro-tech a premium brand? I don't know much about them.

I always wondered if those models were proper knives that were suitable for daily use. They look so good I guess I just assumed they were dainty and built like a show knife.
