Sitting here, just finished some Black Ops2 Zombies and my fearsome hunting dog starts to growl. I look outside and a number of large jackrabbits are making their way across my front yard. I run and grab my .25 PCP bolt action 8 shot repeating airgun, set the scope to 75 yards, come back and the rabbits are gone. Darn. Wait a second and a straggler bounces up. Took a shot, hit him through the belly (found entry and exit wounds) and he stops. Hit him again in the chest but he just sat there...wth? Aimed at his head and got him through the eye, then he goes in to the death throes.

Unleash my fearsome hound and he managed to drag the rabbit back on my side of the barbed wire, bonus score. Went inside, got my Tank Buster which I had used my Wicked Edge on the night before and viola.

I sawed through the neck, then got the two front legs and one back leg with a single chop each, two for the other hind leg. Skinning was a breeze, damn this TB is sharp.

And of course, Sampson, the biggest, meanest, most ferocious hell hound ever to defile God's green Earth:

It looks to me like some fried rabbit is in your future! Sampson is pretty cute for a "Hell hound" ;)

Nice pics when we can prepare and eat it?

Sometime soon, I like jack rabbit, tastes like dark meat turkey to me.

He's got the spirit of a killer? lol

Sweet, thats good eating right there!

Looks like Bugs weighed more than sampson. :D

That's what I thought when he went after it. He only messed with it because it was shot. He got scared by a pair of doves that landed about 20 feet in front of him the other day...

You dressed that rabbit like a pro, wish I had those skills. Rabbit stew is good.

If you were not so far away, I'd say that could be the start of a nice coat for me! It's getting darned cold here. Great pics.

Jack-Cacciatore! Only way to eat bunnies for me! Except when they're little pinky newborns then i. .
Uh, nevermind.

When I read the title, I thought you must've had some big bugs (insects) to kill if you were using a .25cal :D

Sampson has that look. . . .That ferocious look ;) Looks like the TB worked well

Yeah, I thought about that. I was going to change it to Bugs Bunny, but figured I might get a little more traffic if people thought I was shooting at insects :)

Glad you're going to eat him but why didn't you shoot him through the head with the 1st shot?

Looks like he should fry up good. Sampson reminds me of a character from a short story, if you enjoy zombie fiction look on amazon for Riley Pt1 and 2 by Mark Tufo. Its the zombie apocalypse from a dogs point of view.

I wanted to be sure I hit him, 75 yards with an airgun is pushing it.

Looking it up now, sounds awesome!

I'm a big fan of "One Shot - One Kill" I figure if I'm putting a life on the line I'll give it a chance to live if I miss.

That being said, I have seen times when something needs to be gut shot and suffer for what they have done...different issue though.

I'm just glad you finished it off quickly and are eating it.

On a side note...What air gun are you using?
I have both Daystates with a 17gr pellet running at 900fps and Theobens in .177, .20, .22 and .25
The .25 is running a 30gr at close to 850fps, lots of knock down power.

Practice those long shots and the rest are easy.

Feeling bad about something I'm trying to eat isn't a strong point for me, I just want to get it. I used to be an exterminator and there is no "Geneva Conventions" when it comes to pests, which the jack rabbits may or may not be... it's open season on them year round *in California* so I'm guessing the State technically sees them as pests. Don't get me started on how diabolical pesticides/rodentacides/avicides are... look up IGR if you want a taste. And that is NOTHING compared to animal testing...

Crosman (Benjamin ) Marauder and I'm running JSB Exact King 25.4gr. It chrony's about 810 which is enough, but of course I'd like a bit more, I might see if I could tune it to 900. It took me a looong time to build up to spending that much on an airgun, the damn pump for the thing was as much as a moderately priced airgun itself! My next one down that I use for bunnies and rabbits is a .22 Crosman Regal nitro piston that I run lead free Barracuda Greens 12.6gr and it does about 940fps, but I'm usually much closer if I attempt to use that one.

I have a metal squirrel target set up at about 75 yards that's one of those where you hit the target on it and it makes it fall over. I can drop the squirrel maybe 2-4 shots out of ten with the Regal, if I'm lucky, and 8 of 10 with the Marauder. The only reason I miss those other two shots is that I'm shaky and have no breathing technique, basically a poor shot lol I think break barrels, even the nitro piston, kick a little before the round leaves the barrel.

I've heard of Daystates and other than being way outside of my price range, I've heard they are some of the best. I don't think I've heard of that other company, but I'll assume they're similar ;)

I've been giving a lot of thought to one of those real big bores, like .355 or so. They are pretty impressive. I have an old china made one (red army training rifle i was told) that with the rws. 177 pellets i can keep em all inside a dime or squirrel head at 50'.
I also have a daisy bb gun i picked up from ag russell some years back that uses special bbs that is ridiculosly accurate. I hang a piece of string from a tree branch and even with a breeze rarely miss. It only shoots about 300 fps i think though, so grasshoppers and dragonflies are all i would take on with that.
