Build quality/Looks wise, I'm pretty SHOCKED by this ten dollar (or less) large Folder!

to be fair, you don't need to be an 'expert' to call out a company for low quality...
history and consensus are actually well documented regarding mtech and you don't need to own one to have handled one... I've picked them up at gas stations & acquaintances

based on all that, I stand by my condemnation

(I do not claim to be an expert & amazingly I still have an opinion... and it's still valid)

you are free to have your opinion, if you love 3cr13 blades at 52 hrc, go for it : )
I don't happen to own any Mtech products and never have . So I refrain from making any judgements , either pro or con .

I do own a very few Ganzo and consider them OK in quality for the price . Not the best available , by far , but not "junk" either .

If you want to "condemn" based only the opinions of others , that's entirely your business .

All in all, for seven dollars, not too bad a knife/deal if for nothing else, a "fidget" toy!

I had a "budget" out the front auto. Heck, it still might be kicking around somewhere - last I saw it, it was on the dining room table & in my house, that's the death area for anything....as in if my wife sees anything on that table twice - it disappears to God only knows where...(I lose more things that way...)

Anyhow - yeah, it was & still might be a good fidget toy. I used it as a letter opener &/or package tape slitter also.

I have a couple of cheap folding knives made in China, most probably made with 420C steel. However, they're actually sturdy and well made. One of the folding knives claims to be a "Smith & Wesson", but I don't know if it's fake or not. Another is heavy as hell. I like them.

Problem is, I don't trust Chinese products. I mean, I have nothing against the Chinese people (or any other people), but regarding their "business model" my level of distrust is abnormally high, maybe at the verge of paranoia.

I'm concerned, for instance, with the metals used in those blades, specially in the handle. The Chinese have exported tons of Cadmium to my country (mixed of course with other metals) in form of imitation jewelry, which is of course used by women, and children. Thinking about that, I'll never put a Chinese folding knife (for instance) under my pillow.

I stress once more that I have nothing against the Chinese people, which is as good as any other. I only have a problem with their "business model", in which things like "ethic" seems to have no place.

It really depends on the company. Some, like WE, Kizer, Petrified Fish, etc. are good. Others like Eafengrow have routinely been caught trying to pass off cheaper steels as D2.

Issues like toxic toys and jewelry are horribly tragic. These are things that people wear all day or that kids put in their mouths. Knives are a little less intimate but people still carry them around all day. I recommend thoroughly cleaning new knives and swapping out for non-toxic lubrication. Preservative-laden factory gunk is probably more dangerous than anything leaching from steel, G-10, etc. but brass often contains lead.

Yes, I'm aware that it depends on the company. But because my knowledge of the blade Chinese market is zero, I feel lost. Maybe we should have a dedicated topic about this issue.

Chronovore said it best. I bought two of a Hinderer knockoff with the thought of "oh well, if they are decent, I might not carry them, but put them aside for shtf." They came. Oh the design was spot on. The quality was quite bad and they were given away. The boost up in quality for the price of a couple of quick lunches in knives is amazing.
