Well, this was a tough one to call. Lots of great entries. After a lot of inner debate I have to give this one to OutdoorsFamilyMan4. I have done nearly the same thing as you with my 14 and some cardboard so it hit really close to home. Well done! Email me your addy and your choice between a BK-13 or BK-14 Zytel Scales. Sorry to everyone else, I really appreciated your entries and were I a richer man everyone would have gotten a prize.

Hey folks,

Since it's the season of giving I thought we could use a constest/GAW. I feel like it's been awhile since we've had a non-mod started GAW and we could use one. I can't afford much and will be using a gift card I got from Xmas to purchase the prize but if you feel like it's worth your effort give it a go!!

The prize: Your choice of either a BK13 Remora or Ka-Bar BK-14 Zytel Scales, brand new shipped directly to your door (I am sorry, CONUS only as I have run into shipping issues in the past :()

The challenge: Build something with a Becker. That's it. What and how is up to you.

The criteria: The pictures and project created MUST BE CREATED BRAND NEW FOR THIS CONTEST, THAT MEANS NO OLD RECYCLED PICTURES!! You must be an active member of the BKT subforum (BHs will be given a slight edge), you MUST use a Becker knife in some way to complete the task, you must use only one BKT knife throughout your assembly process, you must be legally old enough to receive something sharp in the mail without a parent signature.

Obviously the bigger and better the thing you build is the higher the chance of you winning. Bonus points if you only use your BKT knife and no other tools. Myself, Ethan, nor BFC or any of it's moderators are responsible or liable for any damage to you or your property while attempting this challenge. I reserve the right to edit/moderate this challenge as it progresses (that means I came up with this while inebriated and may have missed something :D). I wish you the best of luck and happy holidays!

You have until the 20th of January to submit your entry. Have fun folks!

P.S. Chatting is fine just keep it relevant and brief, I welcome PMs or chat threads for any serious questions.

Great Contest! Thanks for the chance. I have been wanting to try the 14 handles. #272 up for the challenge---I wanted this to be something that I could build with the help of my sons (5 and 4). We had a bunch of cardboard boxes laying around in the garage so I figured I would build them some kind of fort. They love forts (who doesnt--I make a pretty awesome blanket fort but the wife gets mad when I rearrange the whole living room to do it, so I thought this would be the next best thing)
Started out with a couple boxes and my bk14--Its the only tool I used with the exception of some duck tape.

I used the 14 to completely open the box up and turn it inside-out--then with some folding and taping, I got the basic shape.

I then put the top on. I kept it open for airflow and a place to look out. Then I drew the door and started cutting it out with my 14

I cut out a window and some wings/fins and attached them to the sides

If you cant tell what it is yet I'm sorry---I'm no artist---Its a rocket ship--Heres the inside view:

I printed out some control panel images I found online and taped them up so the boys could control their ship.

Heres the boys in their ship--not sure about getting their picture taken--

Had some leftover cardboard--thought I would make them some astronaut tools (I considered freehanding a BK8.2 Rocket/Astronaut Escape/Egress Tool but again I am no artist so I opted to trace the ones I do have (a 2 and 14)

Uh oh guys, might as well throw in the towel. We have an experienced craftsman in the game now :D

Just how old is that :D. Can I still enter for fun though?

Ok so I started my project. I'm going to be making a wooden phone stand for my iPhone 5.

The materials

Now I cut out the support for the phone.

And marked out the base

Then cut

Now I set up the miter saw for 22.5 degrees and cut.

I drilled some holes and milled out a slot.

Now for some sanding. Ill update later.

Ok so I got it done. It looks off square in the pic but I can assure you its not.

Only problem is I was left with a gap between the two pieces and the dang thing tips over every time I take the phone off, so Ill have to redo the bottom piece.

In my state it's 18, not familiar w/ your local laws. You can definitely still enter for fun, and if you need a set of BK-14 Zytel scales that is one of the prizes as well and not sharp so you could still win that.

Sadly i didnt win :( it was an injustice to say the least (lmao-joke in case it wasnt obvious :)

Well, its not much, and its dang small, but here is something to get us going.

I taught my nephew his first ever lesson about knife care, handling and safety. I used a BK11 and my newly found (old) camillus boy scout knife to teach my 9 year old nephew, and we got to practice our lesson by doing some soap carving. We made it through the event with only one small cut on my nephews finger.

Here are the results of the carving. Mine is the extremely lame vaugely bear shaped object in the middle by the BK11. The nephews work is on the right, and my brother in laws actually vaugely bear shaped object is on the left.

Close up. Great shot of the BK11... sadly, the bear shaped soap carving doesn't look as good from up close...

At least I have room to improve in my carving :p.

Thanks for the contest man :).

Thanks for being my first entry Logan! Maybe everyone else will forget to enter and you will take this thing no contest :)

Thats my secret plan.

Thats how I won my only other actual contest. It got buried way back on like page 4 and no one else knew! I edited my first post in that thread so it didn't get bumped to the first page.

I'm a shoe in when no one else enters :).
