Not sure if one of my belts is contaminated but getting a plastic/glue type build up behind my belt. Causing dimples in my grinds. I've scraped off the deposit with a flat razor and sanded the plate and wheels to clean the other day, but it happened again tonight. Maybe bad belts? Random starter belt set. Tossing the belts away and ordering fresh stuff. Just weird and it took me a while to realize this depositing on the platen was causing the dimpling/uneven grind issue. Thoughts???

Feel your platen after grinding. One possibility could be the heat build up melting the glue.

Some belts do that. Norton Blaze are notorious for that

Blaze are VERY bad about melting the backing when they get really hot. That is a major reason why i switch to the 3M belts like the Cubitron 984

It is normal with some belts. If the platen is flat you don't need to sand it to clean it. Scrape off what you can with a single edge razor blades then rub the rest off with a blue shop towel with some brake cleaner on it.

if you DON'T clean it off, subsequent use with the hardened gunk on the platen can not only mess with your grinds, but also scratch or gouge the surface of your platen

Thanks for the heads up. I'm using a couple cubitrons. Guess I'll have to watch my heat build up. I ruined a practice peice and couldn't figure out where the dimples were coming from. New to using the 2x72, slowly figuring it out.
