The spirit of mod'ing is huge with this community, with that being said,
IF you could build One knife for Becker to produce, what would it be?
I would like to know blade length, width, height, shape, tip type/shape, grind type, handle material, even a change in steel, you want it, make it happen here!

Drawings, CAD, photoshop welcomed, just keep it realistic (no lightsabers, boo hoo, I know).

Let the Fun begin!

I would think a bk9 base with .025 thickness (partial)
drop/spear point
Front 1/3 of spine is full thickness (tip side), last 2/3's (handle side) would be .021 to push the weight forward for chopping and added material for chopping, choking up for skinning and draw cutting.
Full height convex or a true ffg
Jimping, no thumb ramp or choil, small ricasso for cutting up near handle.
Scales: stock, I like stipled grivory.
Steel: I like the 1095 crovan but something like m4 or 3v might be nice

I dont think ill be making any designs but ill be very curious to see what people come up with. Great thread idea.

Nessmuk with a 4"blade, and about 1/8 thick

This, but for my personal taste it would be a bit thicker maybe 3/16ths. It would need a tweener handle. To keep it slicy make it a FFG or 'Fisked' starting from 4mm from the top of the spine.

Excuse me while I go drool.

I'd love something between the 2 and the 16. I'd keep the saber grind and length of the 2, but make the blade a little thinner and bring the height in from 1.75" to at most 1.5".

That Becker Scandi Buschraft Tweener Warrior mocked up is almost too cool not to make. I bet they would sell a ton of those and honestly I think I would have to buy one. I think the forum should try to convince Mr Becker to consider a knife like that with his own design elements of course, but in that spirit.

If I'm remembering correctly, Ethan doesn't fancy scandi grinds too much.

Warrior! You have a real gift for knife design and using whatever program you use to bring your designs to life.

Thanks man. I use the GIMP program.

Well I think it would be extremely popular. What doesn't he like about Scandi grinds? It's a grind even a novice can keep really sharp. After seeing that rendering, I just think that blade HAS to be made. I can only imagine how many they would sell. I don't think a lot of the bushcraft blade makers would want them to make it though.;)

I honestly don't know if he doesn't. Seems I remember reading someone else saying that he didn't, not Ethan himself.

I used to think about how sweet a .25in BK9 would be (I assume that's what you were thinking of when you said .025in thick :)) with a BK2 style drop point on it. Now though, after a good amount of use with my BK9... I actually support the 3/16in thickness. If it was a quarter of an inch thick, it would get pretty heavy and tiring to use for anything other than "big" chopping and battoning. Anything up the the 4-6in range and its fine, and anything larger than that I'd try to use a different tool anyway. The thing I've liked most about it is that it can do basically everything. In fact I think I can say now that I don't plan on purchasing any more .25in thick knives anymore, as I just don't see the need. That's just my two cents though.

And personally, I've actually been looking at getting a custom made designed/patterned after the BK16. I think upgrading the steel to A2 or CPM3V and thinning it down to 1/8in would be my ideal woods knife. The tougher steels should allow it to remain roughly the same overall strength as the BK16, while being better at the types of use it will see most. While still being able to baton 2-3in straight grained wood with ease.

Oh, and my wife doesn't like the way the 10 and the 7 look. Specifically, she doesn't like the "extended guard", and to be honest, I agree with her. I think if I ran the world, the BK7 and BK10 would have the same profile and grind as the BK9, with the "taller" blade, so then you could rest the blade on a cutting board and not have the heel of the blade up in the air. Again, that's just my thoughts :).

Anyway, that's my two cents.

Either a recurve bk9 at 3/16 full height convex edge with a spear point or a saber grind bk 16.... Just saying :)

Great thread though good to see what people would love to have. Great designs to begin with but also lot of great mods... The warrior is an artist so anything he suggests I will also follow

Cheers

Impressive indeed, sir!

Also, I've been really happy with the 1095 crovan compared to regular 1095. I've heard that CPM 3v is awesome, but I think changing the steel would change the price and take away the "this knife is a bargain and a value" aspect.

True, but the knife you would make wouldn't need to be mod'd to the same extent as the standard current run Beckers. I see it as spending a few extra bucks to get what an upgraded steel, if wanted, and a particular blade shape not available aside from major work...

I am happy with the current steel and the HT of it, so no complaints from me about that. Though since only the one (good) steel is currently offered and a lot of us have experiences with multiple steels, I figured I would throw the catagory in as an option.
Remember, this is what you would like to see if your hand was the one on the reins.

I do like the nessmuk idea, as well as a dedicated swept back blade skinner too.

I'm going to go ahead and agree completely.

Now I'm going to be stuck day dreaming about all the possibilities for awhile. Darn you for starting this thread, ha!

A BK-15 in a super steel like CPM 3V or S30V or S35V I think would just be amazing. Its really tough as nails as is, but with that thin blade in a super steel, you would have the best cutting performance and toughness combined.
Then nobody could say, "But its awfully thin, what if it breaks"...lol

My factory build would be easy, a BK-2 with a 3/16" full flat grind blade with jimping on the spine and micarta scales. Oh, in 1095 Cro-Van of course !!!!!!!!!!! I'll take four of these, just let me know when I can order them :p !!!!!!
