Howdy folks,
I have a Jungle Honey I'm working on. It is O1 steel, ground, not forged. It's got a right hand chisel grind. I'll try to post some pictures and detailed specs this evening.

At this point it's been heat treated and ground, so the next step is polishing. I thought I'd leave it up to the customer what handle configuration to go with, which is why I'm posting an unfinished blade for sale. ;)

It will have a cord wrapped handle. What you get to decide is the colors, and whether or not to have stingray skin under the cord wrap.

The choices are:

White or black stingray

White, black, or emerald green para-cord

Turks head knots are standard, but if you don't want them, that's ok too.

I'm asking $1000 for it, but stingray will add anywhere from $25 to $50 extra.

Sorry, but you're on your own for the scabbard. :)

Here's a picture of the blade as it is now:

It's 31-5/8" long. I forgot to measure the blade width, but I think it's about 2-1/2"

It's ground from 3/16" thick O1

Hardness is 59 Rc.

Thanks,
Phillip

Here's a few more pics. I gave it a nice 400 grit handrubbed finish today.

Phillip,
That looks incredible. Just a question because I am...ignorant :o in such matters--

Are chisel grinds typical on these types of blades or are you doing a variation on a theme? What advantages does a chisel grind provide on this style of blade?

Hi Chris,
Honestly, I don't see any advantage to a chisel grind, and since it curled up like a potato chip when I hardened it, I don't think I'll be doing it again. ;)

Some people say chisel grinds get sharper, but that's simply not true. Draw it on paper and you can see, the angle at the edge is the same. The only thing that changes is the angles at the spine.

I did it this way because the originals (made by Jimmy Fikes and Don Fogg) had chisel grinds.

I just made the turk's head knots. A three strand for the small end of the handle, and a four strand for the big end:

that is really sweet phillip :D. i like it.

Thanks! :) Hey, I got your blade heat treated. Can you email me your street address?

When I saw it polished up I said "holy crap" thats a hell of a blade there. I wish it was ground on both sides (personal prefrence) but that thing is Hellacool.

Nice one. I had forgotten what the jungle honey pattern was before I scrolled down. Nice, I think I remember seeing a progress thread on one of these patterns a while ago.

I have two others in process, and they're both double ground. (and unspoken for ;) ) :D It's my preference also.
