Building a Canoe on the cheap......

Looking great! Nothing as satisfying as building your own kit :)

Are you going to sit in it kayak style-on your butt,or kneel or put a seat in it? I paddled one like this that that had a removable seat pad on the bottom and you leaned back against the back thwart[is that the right word?] that had a foam wrap on it. Great job so far! Keep us updated.--KV

Any updates on this?
I've really been wanting to get into paddle sports, first I was thinking I wanted a kayak, but then I thought a canoe would be better so I could fit more gear and my girlfriend. But then I came across pirogues, which I understand is technically what this craft is. Looks like pirogues would be a bit more beginner friendly, and THANK YOU for linking to the plans.

Great looking build. I've been looking at this same style for a few weeks now. My biggest concern is weight capacity. (Im not a little fella). Any idea on load capacity? I also want to glass the entire boat. Any idea as to how much epoxy I'll need? I know Beteau sells a kit that uses 1.5 gallons. That's not exactly cheap.

Would be much cooler if the OP posted more progress in the last 4yrs. ;)

Cool. Years ago a buddy and I built a pretty decent ice fishing shack for next to nothing. We went to a snow mobile dealership and got all the chip board shipping crates for free.
