Building a carbidizer

I have some broken carbide bits. Wire and clips are no problem. A power source is easy enough to scrounge up. Just need to get a Dremel engraver. I guess this will be a WIP thread.

Yeah, another member told me how to do it over the phone. The vibration keeps the electrode (carbide bit) from welding itself to the work. Treat everything like electrode positive.

It's not a lot more complex than that, but it is more complex.

Not a simple matter of connecting to a power supply and running.
Hell, I killed a high dollar Variac trying that!

Well that's helpful... But seriously, I am definitely going to keep and eye on this thread. I'm looking into the same thing myself. Just don't have the money for some r&d.

I just bought one for $350. Though it wasn't really cheap (cheap compared to grinders but a lot compared to a dremel and parts), it is cheaper than selling knives that fail/ loosen up. I felt the small investment was worth it IMHO. I am curious how you'll figure it out but hope it works for ya. I'll be following the thread.

Yes, I got mine from Travers. I was watching USA Knifemaker but it was out of stock. I am guessing they have been out of stock for a while as the price is about $90 less for the same item. You might want to give Tracey M. A call at USA Knifemaker to verify.

Curious to see what you come up with, but like Brian said, you'll need more than just a straight power source, or you'll be going through a lot of power sources.
