Building a EDC kit, your opinion on a good kit?

Hey guys,

Lately I've been looking for a decent little pouch to hold some extra gear with me, something that can be taken EDC and not be obtrusive.

Is maxpedition the only company that make a decent style of EDC belt kits?
I would like something that can hold my HTC, tk-10, Skeleton, spare Bat's, a GPS and eventually a Doug Ritter pocket kit.
So far I have been looking at the Max H-3 and H-2 kits. they seem to be a good balance of what I need, but I dont think either will hold what I want the they I would like it too. One has a flashlight sheath, but nothing for a GPS where as the other has the GPS slot, but no specific place for the light.

Can you guys think of anything else that might be more practical for me?
Also if you guys have pictures of pouches that you have and or use that would be awesome, thanks for the help guys.

Fonly, I can't help but think we've all (or most of us) gone too high tech, e.g., GPS batteries, Max H-3 and H-2 kits (I haven't a clue), and so on. Seems to me more useful essestials would be lots of nylon cord, fish hooks, salt packets, lighters and matches, spare ammo, high cal food, ponchos, plastic bags, etc.

The first couple of days in a survival situation are critical and the first and most important need is shelter to save yourself from that heat absorbing night sky. Second is water and a distant third is food. Then worry about finding your way out and back home.

If you want to carry, on your belt, all the gear listed, you may want to look at Maxpedition's Triad Admin Pouch.

I use their Jumbo Versipack for my EDC with a M-2 Waistpack and an empty Mega Rollypoly attached to it. It allows me to carry a lot of gear in a pretty small package. It is either with me or in the truck of my car. It is setup for urban and wilderness EDC (I even fly with it). Before anyone asks, I don't keep a knife in it (the knife stays on me except when flying).

Here is a partial list of contents:

good stuff, thanks guys.

This kit is more less to tide me over from my main kit, something with just essentials. I have my Lunada as a main pack, but seeing is Maxpedition makes solid stuff, I figured if I were to get something I would go back to Max.

I have a little PSK I carry with me on buisness trips. Not much, but a few essentials:

  • Small folding knife*
  • Lighter*
  • Paracord
  • Ibuprofin
  • Adhesive Bandages
  • Triple-antibiotic packets
  • Potable-Aqua
  • Button compass
  • Map
  • Pencil & paper
  • Safetly pins
  • Copy of Photo ID, etc.
  • Cash

*Stashed in checked luggage if I fly. :(

You can fly with lighters now, as long as they aren't "jet" lighters. Doesn't seem to be any limit to the number either, I had about 5 bics between my pockets and my bag last time I flew.

I EDC a PSK in a Lowepro camera pouch - a Rezo 30 model.

http://products.lowepro.com/product/Rezo-30,2012,25.htm

It holds my fire kit (including magblock and striker, ferro rod, matches and PJCBs), Altoids first aid kit, a SAK, compass, some duct tape, and a few other odds and ends.

It is sturdy and well-built, with two zipper pouches and a velcro flap, and it can be mounted on a belt, pack, or (using the loops provided) on a neck chain.

Cheap, too. And unobtrusive.

All the best,

- Mike

Hi all,

Fonly I carry a little belt kit that is a com pass / firstaid kit that i got from black hawk ind. I do not carry a shelter in it like a trash bag or space blanket I would just put on ime back pocket and be set.

Kits like this and some others I have seen can really be a life saver if need be and they are so light. throw in a space blanket like a AMK heat sheat and you can build a pretty cool shelter to stay in if need be like this one I did with one 2 weeks and 1 day ago.

This is how I carry mine every day right next to my belt knife.
