I think the OP was wanting to garner info on making a homemade sharpener. Instead people are advising him to learn to sharpen freehand.
I sharpen freehand, but I know not everyone has the time to learn to do it this way. I also use several different sharpening systems as well. There is a place for using different systems.
In any event, with some thought, Im sure you can find a lot of material at Lowes that will allow you to control the angle. On another forum a guy made an angle guide out of wood, pvc pipe and some screws. Pretty ingenious. I will post a link if I can find it.
