Building my collection, but what next?

I've always had a love for good steel but have just recently started building a collection of quality blades. I have an old Gerber I purchased many years ago and even purchased a few odd knives from travels to France, but now I'm starting to pick up some nice quality pieces and just need some guidance on my next few EDC pieces.

I currently have a Kershaw Leek (really like this little knife), a nice Spyderco Paramilitary 2 with green scales and just received a really nice Spyderco Techno which may be my favorite to date. While I like my Paramilitary 2, I like EDC knives in the 7" (give or take) range. I have a Delica and Dice on my must have list but I was wonder what other EDC knives you'd suggest.

And can someone please explain this addiction to quality knives I seem to be having? My wife doesn't understand it and I'm at a loss for words when I try to explain it to her.

A couple budget folders in your size range I would recommend would be the Kershaw Chill or the Kabar Dozier (both around $20). A slight bump up and you have the Kershaw Skyline (around $40). I have a Spyderco Des Horn on its way to me, I'm excited about that little guy. (also in your size range but can't speak of it just yet, around $100) A Benchmade mini Griptilian is another good one. (around $85)

And no, you can't really explain the sickness to your wife. Good luck with those awkward conversations...

Thanks fetzer85, I'm not really looking for budget knives, I want a few good pieces that are really enjoyable to own. Most of the pieces I see that I like are in the $150+ range with a Chris Reeve Small Sebenza being pretty much at the top of my range. I also like frame lock knives and really have my eye on some of the well made titanium blades out there. I'm working my way up to a Sebenza though but would like to have a nice collection when I get to that point.

Ok let's try again lol

Have you tried a Benchmade Axis lock yet?

Based on what you just said there, I highly recommend taking a look at the Domino or the Ti-framelock Sage. I own the Domino (the blue lightning strike CF version, not the black checkered CF) and absolutely love it. It looks good anywhere, CTS-XHP is great steel, flipper open is fun, weight is reasonable for a ti framelock, ergos are great in use... the list goes on.

Al you're in the Spyderco sub-forum so are you asking for Spyderco EDC's? If so there's lots to choose from and I would think about it in terms of which Spyderco blade shapes do you prefer and also which types of locking mechanisms. There are way too many quality knives out there. But since you have a liking for a particular OAL that's a great start! The fluted Ti Native is pretty sick.

If you are speaking generally though, having gone through a pretty wide range of knives of across all price ranges I would say check out a Boker Urban Trapper and a Boker Mini Kwaiken. Are just great EDC's. I have the large Kwaiken and and going to pick up a small and I just ordered the Urban Trapper in G10 as I like thin knives.

Most of us on the forum use a million and one ways to try to explain or rationalize why we like knives at the end of it all its acceptable to like what you like and that's enough. Why does my wife like $400 handbags? Beats me but she makes enough money to afford them so I don't say anything about it, in turn my wife understands that I really dig knives and even on some occasions she sees the usefulness in them. After two years or so she gave in. Last year she got me a Wilson Combat large Starbenza and this year she got me a Native lightweight! I dig the Spyderco more than the Starbenza. But to each their own you know!

You need a Native 5 in your Spydie collection!

As far as the wife goes, I just tell mine I don't expect her to understand, just accept. For the most part she does.

Thanks so much fetzer85, that's the type of list I was looking for. Many of these are very new to me but sure look like great knives. Now I'm off to research them all. I held a Benchmade some time ago but I don't remember if it was the Axis. I may be taking a trip to REI this weekend to see if they have one I can hold. thanks

Thanks kubelik, the Domino is a great knife but just a bit larger than I wanted, now that Ti Sage with the framelock is more what I'm looking for. thanks
