Well this one is way off of topic but I felt the need to share this story. Got a call from my son's school today telling me that he got in a fight, needed to be picked up and was going to be suspended from school. So this gets my brain going on what the hell is going on, what happened, etc? So while I am on my way to the school he calls me and tells me the story. There is a kid who he has had issues with for the past couple of years so it seems it finally boiled over. This kid bullied him a couple years ago - issues got worked out everyone moved on. But today it happened again and he wasn't going to take it anymore. SO - he didn't start it; the bully started with a shove then in return received a fist to the chest. Feet and fists ensued thereby leading to the phone call from school. Hearing this and validating it from another source; I pondered what should I do? Well my wife and I decided that his punishment would be...... going to work with me. Yes for a 12 year old to go hang out around guns and some pretty cool guys isn't much of a punishment. But he didn't deserve to be punished in my opinion. He stood up to a bully - saw the enemy, didn't hesitate and closed the distance. GOT TO LOVE THAT!!! Now that bully and all others out there will hesitate and realize he fights back. Word on the street is the boy got the best of the bully:D. So tomorrow at work the fellas are most likely going to take him out for a hearty lunch after a morning of a vigorous workout. Anyway just a short story that I wanted to share.

P.S. I despise bullies; maybe you got that already.

Yeah major, get him a knife. He needs a small fixed blade anyways. Get him a 14.

Yes, he needs one.

Good for him for not taking crap from that bully any longer.

Good on you man, your son did what was right, he stood up to that ass and now hopefully he leaves him alone now. I think you are doing a stand up thing for him and I applaud you sir.

Good story. I'm definitely of the opinion that if a kid's got to deal with a bully, the best way is from a position of strength. I'm going to teach my kids martial arts. I fought a few bullies in my time. Sad that a kid can't defend himself these days without getting in trouble at school though.

I'll throw in a vote for an 11. That way he can open his soda bottles too :)

good on him, i can say from experience that's the only way to stop it. i bet once he gets into school after his time off he wont be looked at the same again, kids will learn to not mess with him.
also from experience i can say the 14 is a great knife! except i wrapped mine i haven't tried the scales.

Good for him.
Stand by your son and he will stand up for himself and others as you yourself do.
Thanks for serving.

Back when I was in school my dad's advice was don't start a fight but be sure to finish it. I was not that big in school but had no sense of restraint so when I was picked on it ended up with me flipping out and completely beating the hell out of the bully. Me dad always defended my choice when I was sitting in the principals office.

sounds good to me.

i'd call a lawyer and get a letterhead printed up with a statement along the lines of "reinstate my child immediately, or we'll take action as a result of your inability to protect my child from a known bully/etc" and run with it ;)

as well, a knive and other rewards sounds fabulous.

I was in a similar situation when I was in the third grade. The school bully wasn't picking on me (I was as big as he was, that would have been a fair fight), but he did want me to help him pick on a smaller/weaker kid that was a frequent target of his. Naturally, I wasn't gonna allow that to happen, so I kicked his ass. The teachers told my mom they'd wanted to do that for a very long time.

Oddly enough, he was very nice to me after that.

my younger brother got the attention of a few bullies.

they wanted to gang beat him.

i said "no". one at a time, or i break you all into tiny bits. nobody messed with "farm boy" :D

they took that as a challenge. so i broken them a little. i was a big, strong kid. was fair though.

later, they ASKED if they could "converse" with my brother, who then got what was coming to him. he deserved it.

nobody, not one parent, or teacher, expressed concern about this levelling of forces.

a few similar instance occurred. same results. kids took care of their own stuff, parents did not get invovled. nobody got suspended.

That happens to me (most of the time) and just about everyone else who gets into a fight at this school. Funny how that works isnt it?

Yeah, it's amazing how that works.

I wish I got a sweet knife for doing what needed doing.

i wouldn't give him a knife to use unless he was properly trained in self defense.....could get really ugly if it wound up in the next bully's hands...
