Yeah, most school policies don't recognize self defense anymore. It's stupid. My son got suspended last year as well for the same thing. I'm sorry this happened to your son, but I'm glad he took it to the bully!
My rules are simple...if you start a fight, you'll be punished at home as well as school, but if you're forced to defend yourself and get in trouble at school, we can look at it as a long weekend!
His your son so your call but if it was me I would be careful what message it would be giving him by giving him a knife right after an incident like this. Just sayin................all kids are different.
Schools suck nowadays. For us, we have a mandatory suspension of at least 3 days for being involved in combat with another student. For whatever reason. As long as we exchange blows, anyone involved will get suspended. If that guy's beating up another person, we can't help unless we wish to get suspended too. It's messed up. And I mean help the person being beat up, not help beat him up. Although I've decided that I'll take the suspension if it comes to it.
