Bummed about my new BK7

I've been chopping with my 7 for tests on the convex I put on it and its holding an edge great!!! I've since removed the coating on the blade only just left it satin, was tempted to polish but I'll leave it as is right now..

more and more, beckers are reminding me of Glocks of the knife world..

No longer bummed about my BK7..

Hey Rob....

Glad you like the knife and so sorry about the bolt issue....I WILL talk to Tooj first thing in the morning and chastise him severely ....Well, maybe not severely but I AM DAMN sure that he will have a kindly (but firm) word with the screwer of screws......( nice guy btw and I suspect he will be mortified)

Thanks for the kind words and thank you for bringing this up.....It WILL be fixed.......

All Best....

i strongly suspect this is already being taken care of...

nylon-lock type nuts or loctite...

next people will complain they can't get them off :)

Ethan,

Thanks for making such a great and affordable product, I'm sure this will not be my last Becker purchase to say the least.. The screws have been resolved but to some may be a deal breaker especially those new to the knife world.. I was bummed cuz I didn't want to go buy another screw..... WHAA

which brings me to my next point, this blade simply wont go dull............
this just sends me over the edge, I like to sharpen..:D

Get over it. Its a trend that us Becker owners have to deal with. Glad to see Mr. Becker back online. Musta been on sabatical or sumpin'. :D Moose

I lost a bolt off my Bk9 the first or second day i used it. I posted about it, and if I recall, my concerns were waved aside (not by Ethan, some other posters). Glad to see some people feeling the same way now.

Hey Everybody......

Just this minute got off the horn with Tooj and the prob was discussed a while ago and shelved in a fit of indecision......Same discussion really that is in this thread.....Blue loctite for relative ease of removal because Becker owners are always trying stuff or do we use red or green and have very expensive, very strong rivets and no flexibility for the customer whatsoever......Tooj and I are currently leaning toward the blue stuff as a reasonable compromise.....He will have to run it past some guys over at the plant but, there WILL be a fix and soon.....One of the continuing problems with having innovative and involved customers is that you have ---innovative and concerned customers and frankly I wouldn't have it any other way.....You guys are great and I am endlessly delighted with the creativity I see........

All Best......

Or you might want to go with the Nylon lock nuts that Bladite and some others have suggested. They just may offer an economical solution to the problem.

Best,

Bob

send it to me - I'll dull it up for you and ship it back -- fair enough? :D

ok, I just sent it.. good luck with that, did I mention it has a mean convex?:D

Ethan,

I don't know how expensive that loctite would be for you in production as you guys make a ton of knives, however it may be just as advantageous to make a little slippy note to stick in the box with the knife just to let the consumer know that screws may come loose if you bang this thing around a bunch.. (this way the costs of the loctite or other solution isn't passed on to us :)

I was chopping on a 4" diameter log and after going thru it noticed the screw missing, the other two were barely loose. I know your quality so I didn't question it a bit, but was bummed my brand new knife just lost a screw.. but its found and all is well and loctited........

Mr. Becker,

I just appreciate the fact that you're here addressing the issue. That means a lot to consumers like us in this day and age. So many companies view the consumer as nothing more than a dollar sign anymore. More often than not too when a problem crops up, it's viewed as the consumers problem and very little help is offered by the manufacturer. So again, I thank you for being here and speaking with us. It's very refreshing when a manufacturer takes interest in what's going on.

In the case of the screws, as I said earlier in the thread, mine were fairly loose on my BK2 and BK7 when they arrived. Did it bug me? Sure. Is it a deal breaker? Not at all. The Becker line of knives are one of the best values in terms of quality vs. price in this or any industry.

Honestly, just tightening them down seems to have worked fine in my case, no locktite needed. Both knives are top notch performers.

Thanks again Mr. Becker, keep up the great work!

My gerber miniparaframe had loc-tight on the screws! My rat one had loc putty on the srews.A person would think That a 70 dollar knife would have that puddy on them too! I have a BK-9. I dont like it. It always gets jammed in wood. It also is hard to sharpen for the grind is soo funyplus the knife is big. I lerned my lesson no more big blades. I would recommend a machete insted,or a ax

Magus, well stated & I agree with you.

Beckers are great values, but really....letting them past QC like that is lazy in my book. Someone or something is putting them in there, just tighten them up.
I ran into this on both my 2 & 9 as well.

Look at the bright side, makes it easier to pull the cookie cutter scales off and custom fit your own, then it looks like a real knife:D

Just a thought, besides the possible use of blue loctite or nyloc nuts: implement the use of some sort of lock washer. These can help when dealing with a compressible material such as the nylon handle slabs.

Also, an electric or pneumatic driver with the appropriate torque setting would help if they aren't already using one. I work as a mfg/eqp engineer in medical device and have had great success with these on my production lines.
