Decided to try out the Bura CAK today. This thing is a monster chopper with great balance and a nice big sweet spot. Wood chips were flying this cold, frosty morning. (You can see the frost on the blade in the pic). In just a few whacks chopping out a small V, it went through a three-inch piece of hardwood (several times). The only other chopper I have that can touch its performance is a Busse Battle Mistress. The CAK would make short work out of limbing chores, and I suspect it'll split well with a baton. More on that later...

The handle on this one is a fair deal bigger than the WWII Villager on which I just did some mods. I don't think any changes in the CAK handle will be necessary. After more reading, I believe the Villagers are made with smaller hands in mind since the HI site points out, "These are khukuris made for local use in Nepal for chopping, digging, hammering and the many other uses required for rural living." On the Villager, I have to put my little finger AND ring finger behind the ring in order to keep my grip off the bolster. On the CAK, I just put my little finger behind the ring, and my grip is situated just fine.

Anyway, here's the action shot. :D

That's one beautiful knife. How often do you have to polish the brass to keep it looking that good? I'm new to the khukuris. But, you guys have just about convinced me to jump in and buy one. I just can't decide which one.

Welcome Prairiedog:)

Generally, I don't worry about the brass on my khuks as they all get used and abused. However, out of curiousity yesterday I took some mothers mag and rim polish to the brass bolsters of my hasiya (think small hand sickle). They gleam:D I hadn't touched them since...well, ever. Almost a year of having the hasiya, hacking all kinds of juicy grasses and plants, and in had never cleaned it up. The brass is easy to keep cleaned up, but if you're going to use the khuk for hardwork, forget about keeping that mirror finish. It'll be an uphill battle:D

As far as choosing a khuk, you can't go wrong:D Far more probable, you won't stop at just one;) I own maybe 40 HI products, and I'm probably an average to lightweight collector.

Once again, welcome!

Jake

That's a beauty Guyon, how does it compare to your WWII? Chopping ability, size, weight, comfort. Now the toughest question .... If you had to choose.

i knew you'd like it. now sell that battle mistress and buy more HI :)

Very nice pic. The CAK was my first. Get that horn into some mineral oil.
