Bura WWII with False Edge: Cool Mod or Barbaric Mutilation?

Big Bob said:
Now if you had circumsized the cho, that would have been a barbaric mutilation. :barf: ;)

Noooo.... I actually PUT chos on knives that don't already have them.

Tell 'em, Nasty! I put a cho on one of his cho-less knives.

Everyone knows that spiritual and practical advantages of the blessed cho.

I even have a 3 cho-ed throwing khuk.

If I had a son, I would name him Cho Astra.

I like it. Hell, I'd take that new edge back two inches and let it sort of fade into the spine.

Don't forget to cut some saw-teeth into the spine!

(just kidding)

Great lookin' mod, Mike
It's kind of like the false edge on the HI kerambit. Makes a great hole-poker:)

Fine if it works! Doesn't really affect the aesthetics, and khuks are all about getting the job done.

I'm not sure extending it would be so good, or so easy. It would take a lot of grinding and a good bit of skill to make it worth while.

How does the tip hold up? Is it fairly hard or pretty soft there?

I like it

Sometimes the end can be pretty soft, but I like the mod. Should help poking through plastic tarps, etc.

I have been using this "beater" khuk to cut large amounts of plastic sheeting and seawall filter-weave cloth.

Ad Astra

Mike, what is seawall filter cloth and what and why is it used please?

Also what kind of fish can you catch off the shore where you are and how deep is the water at the edge, fifty feet out?

Do you use a khuk for cleaning fish, perhaps just cutting off the heads and fins?
Anything else?
Methinks that a khuk is too thick for filleting but could be used in a pinch, should make short work of large rib bones anyway? ;) :D

Whats next ? Serrated khukuri's ?
hmmmm I wouldn't mind a serrated karda
hey Dan, I got this great idea for a new karda.........lol
tom

btw nice penetrator tip ad, but I like it better on my bandicoot lol

Ad Astra has seen a need in one of his tools and, becoming one with it, filled the need. Bill Martino said :"Khuks is to be used."

AdAstra meditated on the being of the blade, its place in the Universe, and gave his total focus and attention to the reality and the spirit of the blade.

He is a practitioner of deep spirituality and discipline, evolving from his earlier relationship with the design of the blades, their sighting apparati, and his purity of spirit.

Sure, Yvsa, filter-weave is a black plastic/cloth material you put in back of your seawall, to keep sand from leaching out when waves come over. It's porous enough that water passes but sand is trapped. You attach it to the boards in back of the seawall, then fill with dirt. Theoretically, you keep the sea from taking your yard. In reality, our seawall, which tops out about 2 feet above mean high tide, has been completely submerged to a depth of at least 8 feet by the hurricane storm surge(s) we had. Plenty of erosion, but the wall held. We're reinforcing it with stainless bolts, 13' long, raising it with 8" beams, and getting 3 20 cu yd. truckloads of sand. $$$. Pay per view.

We catch redfish (red drum), speckled trout, flounder (this time of year) and throw nets for mullet. Also, giant and unwanted stingrays. They have eyes like a cat. Evil. The Swimmer's Bane. Never used a khuk on one, but it would have to be the 25" Gelbu. Those things can strike upward with their tail. Sounds like a... fibreglass whip or something when it hits the dock.

Our water is chest deep for 100 yds., then drops off. Shrimp boats trawl that edge.

Yes, I have a khukuri just for fish. You can dull a delicate edge on a fillet knife quick by trying to cut thru bone... enter, the khukuri. I use my villager BGRS to chop, err, process fish because it's heavy & came sharp. Heads and tails go into the pinfish trap to attract more live bait. Not the world's best fillet knife... neither is the AK bowie. I tried. Ah, another reason to use a villager for fishing: fish acid ruins a mirror etch. Can't hurt a villager. They LIKE the scotchbrite pad.

Yvsa, you & Barb are formally invited to a fish (& shrimp) dinner next time you come down south, y'here?

And Kis?

ah, made you scroll.

Thanks. Just thanks. The pun made me wince, though. :foot:

"What did the Zen Master say to the hotdog vendor?"

"Make me one with every thing."

False edge on a khuk??

Blasphemy!!!!

Mike, you've changed. You used to be cool. The hurricanes must have gotten water in your ears and screwed with your equilibrium.

nah, just kidding. looks good, even though its "wrong." :D
