Bura's $49.95 "Reti" specials. Pix and a fine khukuri for $49.95

OK, thanx to the "early bird" forumites, I saved up $49.95....

The price is a real steal!
Here's a counterpart of the kind in Japan. The price is $250, not too high price for a well-made hand forged knife. You can say those who got Bura's Reti specials have saved $200 for each knife.

Satoishi-san (hope I spelled that right.:o )
Please correct me if not.:footinmou :o
That is one nice rig!!!! But it's No Fair posting a pic without the specs. :p ;)
I for one would really like to know. That looks similar to one of the old Bowies, can't recall its proper name at the moment, except for the slightly recurved blade.

Like Bruise says, "I Likey" and I do too!!!!:D

Hi, Yvsa

Though the maker, Mr.Saji, is never familiar with bowie style tradition, but real "user" big knives may well look alike.... He knows very well about edged tools. I love his craftmanship.

Only specific data I could find out is;
blade length: 200mm (8").
OAL: 300mm (12")

Some other site says that the blade length is 210mm. It may vary as it's hand made, and the material (old file) is not a constant source in size.

and costs less, too. I didn't really read the price the first time. What a deal.

WF. That is a fine looking knife. I may hafta look a making a sheath along those lines fer my AK bowie...

Keith

I got my K-bar for $40 + shipping. I'm glad this thing had the Kobra style buttcap and cho that I don't like or I would have been forced to buy one.

Mr. Saji knives are truly well made. I was fortunate to handle some that Seki-Cut had on display at Blade West. I was very tempted to buy one that had a cherry bark handle and sheath.
If anyone is interested in looking at more of his work I've
included two links to some. His version of a khuk is on the
first link.

Wow. That Deba is VERY tempting (I know, it's a cook's knife and not macho, but it's beautiful.) A thin, strong, chopping blade is worth a fortune.

Keith.... If you figger out that sheath, let us know. I have a Bowie begging for a sheath like that. Too bad all of the Khuks are gone :(.... Ya'll saved me 50 bucks. :D I don't know whether to be happy or sad.

Mad Mike:

Bill didn't say so, but kobras and light fighting knives like this probably have an implied warranty not to fail when used under the conditions they were made for.

In other words, if you are in the military and it breaks taking out a sentry, he'll replace it. If you break it while cutting down a giant redwood, you shoulda known better and it's your own bleeping fault.

This is just my interpretation, so don't put my words into Uncles mouth. I may be all wet about this.:footinmou

But Rusty, what if the sentry is leaning against a giant redwood, and in the heat of the moment you swing a little too hard and...

;) :D

and... chop the giant redwood down with a thunderous crash, alerting all the other sentries in the area. They come running, MP5's at the ready. Now you are in trouble, don't you hate it when that happens.

HAH!!!! Redwoods means California!!---They don't have MP5s!! More like, "They come running, lawsuits at the ready."
Then I would be in trouble, and I do hate it when that happens!

Wel, PZ, must admit that it is a back-burner issue for me currently. But I will make a plastic lined leather one, as opposed to routed wood.

Until then, the very capable TSisco has some wonderful sheath making skills...I dont have his URL right now, but he checks in semi-regularly.

Here's a bonus pic of the YCS shealth I redesigned for a more "lay flat" design. Added snake skin to keep the plastic in place, used leather from a jacket made in the 50's.

This shows the leather collared kydex tool keepers before I cover the scabbard with leather.

Note that this is also a lefty scabbard now. or rear carry sheath for a righty.

Do a search on a thread callled "A look into the Sarki's art" and you will find this and more.

Rusty,
I agree...use equipment for what it's designed for. I thought these khukuris would make a great "combat" knife. More for "slicing and dicing" then for chopping. I more or less mentioned the warranty for clarification. Fortunately I'll probably never have to "take out sentries" with it or even train to do so anymore. But I'm sure if I had to this knife would handle the task very well. I thought this khukuri would be good for "bumps in the night".(Don't want to wake the neighbors ;))
Mike

Lucky for us most HI users adhere to the old adage of "right tool for right job" so warranty continues to be a minor issue.

I don't know if you are getting more of the Reti specials, but if you are, please put me on the list for one.

thanks...
