This thread is for you all to see this little folder that I scored.Barry Burger has designed a really gorgeous , light, strong, unobtrusive in the pocket, and just simply perfect little EDC.Just under 4" closed , and with a 440C hollow ground blade, that is ground perfect, delivered razor sharp, the flats seem to be a bit higher of a polish, than the satin grind. The one liner lock is dead on ,tight and smooth, blade centered perfect.Real nice textured G-10 handles, and a clever one hand opening feature, that works like a champ.
Barry Burger was fantastic to deal with from start to finish,I'll more than likely be ordering again.I actually contacted him, while he was at the Paris show (not knowing this of course),and he promptly e-mailed me back.I'd say the man is on his game.

You can thumb it and then use your index finger,or simply use your index finger,to "flick" it open, works great,it's smooth.

This is what it looks like in the closed position

I met the guy at the Paris Knife show (while a fellow forumite was buying one of his knives) : he is very nice and so are his blades...
(and, quite cheap considering the quality and the excellent craftmanship).

Freddy1 one the European Part of the forum has been really pleased by his. You got yurself an excellent blade. Good score.

It may have been Freddy, who posted the knife in the General sub- forum, where I was attrcated like a magnet to it.He got a red one with no clip. You could go either way, with this one,'cause it's small.I prefer the clip,'cause it gives me options. If I were to drop this in my pocket with the clip,it is still sleek enough, that way, too.

hi VCM3, good score !

sorry but mine has got clip also !:D
I like the blue clip and red G-10 look !
Your pics a much better than mine !

Hey Freddy,Sorry, couldn't remember if yours had a clip.I tried to find your original thread on this knife, came up blank. Thanks Again for originally posting your score of the Burger from the Bern Knife Show. I probably would never have known about this little knife.I've since been thinking about the recurve model.Gonna have to wait a bit on that though,

I have hold the HP with G10 handle during SICAC and it's amazing light, really:eek:
That's what attract Lapinot and me first...
You can't believe how light it is... feather knife !:D

your pics of "extra" modele are nice, but i really enjoy my little red-one due to his lightness...

I did order to Barry a "large" Exkelibur, red G-10, awaiting it may-be end of that month (it's a kind of prototype, that's why it takes a bit long ! )

Freddy,
I like a light knife,as well,I also like wood scales,and all synthetic scales,like G-10,Carbon Fiber,and Micarta.
What is the blade size of the larger MK-1 ?
Vince

it would be something like that (without the titan thumb !)
i did mail barry to know the size of the large burger!

I met him at the Blade show in 2003, I believe. I like his sword canes... :)

Good looking little folder, and it looks like it's a great little user. I do find it ironic that someone would name a 4-inch folder after Arthur Pendragon's sword, but that's a point of detail...

EXKELIBUR (not EXCALIBUR) is actually a play on words, originating with Mike Skellern and Fred Burger, who conceived and built the original model many years ago as a simple springblade folder. The model shown here is actually Exk.3 (the first two versions being springblades of different blade designs). Early Exk.3's featured a thumbstud for opening, but in its latest incarnation it is a "flipper", which, IMO creates a far more attractive knife.

I designed Exk.3 in conjunction with Mike and Fred, and then designed the HP model in conjunction with Barry.

Exkelibur was envisaged as a budget folding knife with custom knife materials and construction standards, an ideal it carries to this day. It is a pocketknife, and has therefore always been approx. 90mm long, and kept light in weight, slim, with no sharp edges. It was initially only made bolsterless, using G10 scales in an effort to create a knife which was impervious to moisture, dryness, heat or cold. I remember Mike and Fred making an offer to knife show visitors that if they could break a handle scale with their bare hands they could have a knife for free! If I remember correctly only one gentleman succeeded in taking advantage of that offer, and he might well have popped some of his internals doing it!

Here's some scans to whet your appetites . . .

HiltonP,Thanks so much for your input with information,on these knives.I really have been enjoying my Exkelibur, and am in contemplation,on the S curve model. To me,or in my opinion, that S Curve model is a unique looking knife, and it looks as if it would be real comfortable for EDC,carrying, using, just a sharp looking knife.
Vince

hi hiltonP, thanks for the input also !:D
I think on next SICAC i'll buy me a HP g-10...
it's sooo light !

A pleasure VCM3 and freddy1.

I'm privilaged to own the very first Exk.3, and first HP, to come out of the Burger workshop. Both really great "day knives", lightweight, well made, and sized right for everyday chores.

The S-curve looks very graceful, open and closed! I think Burger Knives makes it with a wharncliffe blade as well.
