This thread has been closed. Please see the post at the end of this thread for an explanation. Sorry

This thread will feature pieces that will work great to use as a display slab for your finished knives at the shows. When you get tired of looking at them as display pieces you can cut them up for handle material.

The last knife show I went to I was using pieces like this as part of the table display and people kept wanting to buy them.

I will keep adding more pieces to this thread so keep scrolling down to see what else has been added. When you see one you want just post the item # and that you want it. That way no one can buy it out from under you. I picked out several of my favorites from a batch I will be listing in our internet store so you guys can have first shot at them.

Photos show the wood dampened so you can get an idea how it will finish. They have been drum sanded so they will sit flat.

#404 $60 - Spalted Maple Burl 13"x12"x1.5" thick, plus $10 for US Shipping

This is a really good solid slab with super colors and burl figure from edge to edge. The backside has an area that is gold in the photos. That area will be softer than the rest of the slab. This is some of the really good spalted maple burl.

This is very advanced spalting so the wood is a lot softer than normal. There are scattered checks and voids but also a very dramatic slab. If you cut this for handles there will be some good pieces but will require hardening or stabilizing.

#399 $32 California Olive Burl 17"x4"x1.75" thick, plus $10 for US Shipping

Olive burl is good hard wood that polishes up beautifully. There will be some checks and voids to deal with. There is a piece of metal in the wood above the 9 on the tape. I think I cut through a nail there.

Good thick piece for a dramatic display piece or a few good handles.

I figured I better give an explanation for the closing of this thread.
The forum has made some changes, or clarifications in their sellers policy for the forum. To the best of my understanding this makes me a dealer. Since I offer the knife handle wood as a sideline from my day job and do this at my own expense. I will have to wait until I can afford to pay for the upgrade to dealer status before I can resume offering wood for sale through the forum.

I will continue to enjoy the forum as a platinum member. You guys have given a lot of good advice and a ton of encouragement that is greatly appreciated. I will continue the Knife Makers Directory and webstore on my website.

Thanks again to everybody. It's been fun.
Your friend, Mark
