I got these 3 sets of scales from burl source from the free wood give away and am not sure what kinds they are. im thinking the outer 2 are maple burl on right and redwood burl on left?? the middle though i have know idea. it has a bleached look that goes all the way thru the scales. Burl source can you tell me what kind of woods i have here or any1 else that may know?

i generally was in this post asking mark but dont know how to get ahold of him directly so thought id post it here for him or any1 else that may know.

Let's give it a while to see if he jumps in here; if not, I'll give you his e-mail address.

Sorry I forgot to label them. You were correct with the redwood and maple burl. The center one is also maple, just some weird stuff with unusual coloring. It was cut from the heart of a real old maple that was starting to die. The tree was cut down because it had become a hazard. Sometimes western big leaf maple will die from the inside outward. When that happens you get some unusual colors in the wood. This came from the first tree I ever purchased.

oh great thanks for answering that for me mark. im excited to use them and ive never seen any like the center maple piece so am thinking of a creative way to use it. mayb with just a stain or something to bring out the uniqueness even more and paired with white liners. thanks again for the beautiful free scales and for chiming in this post!
