Both Denim and Burlap are great handle material choices for working knives. Here are a few to choose from. I can make these to order in any color I can get burlap in (currently: 3 browns, red, yellow, white, 2 blues, green. Burlap is also an excellent choice to add glow powder to.) Lots of choices in denim too...Contact me and we can discuss your needs.

Natural Burlap

$33US per pair:
6” x 1-1/2” x 3/8”
1 Pair Available. Very nice.

3 Color Burlap,

Tan, Olive, Dark Brown
$33US per pair:
5-3/8” x 1-7/8” x 7/16”
2 Pair Available. Interesting.

Black Burlap,
$22US per pair:
6” x 1-1/2” x 5/16"
All gone Scales have pinholes throughout. Either live with the texture, or fill them in, scales are solid and dense. My miss is your gain.

Black Denim
$30us per pair:
6-1/4” x 1-7/8” x 3/8”
2 Pair Available. Cool looking, great big sets of Black Denim. Thanks to Del! He may give you the shirt off his back to help you. You see he gave me his jeans to make these. Close up makes them look way worse than they are...

All scales were mixed and cured with a clear high strength epoxy resin.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I can supply even worse pictures by request.:D

Shipping In the US:
$5 for USPS priority

Looks like shipping costs to outside the USA is as follows:
I am now shipping in the USPS global priority standard rate envelopes for $11US to Europe, ??? to elsewhere.*

Looks like the envelopes will take up to 6 pair pretty nicely

For 1 or 2 pair, I can ship 1st class for about half that, perhaps a little more. We can discuss shipping options, just PM me and we can work it out.

1st class shipping should be 5-10 days, but closer to ten. Priority shipping 6-10 days, but closer to six.

*Hong Kong shipping is a couple dollars less for 1st class, a couple more for priority go figure

I would be happy to combine shipping with my other scale sales.

An “I’ll Take It” in this thread holds the scales until we make contact.

Thanks for looking.:)

Todd, I'll take both pairs of the 3 Color Burlap, if you'll take a USPS money order.
My power keeps going out because of the weather, so if you don't hear back from me right away, it's because of that.
Please email to dragonfly@policeone.com
Thanks,
Mitch

Question:

How symmetrical are the slabs? I mean are they nice and flat where they could be cut to shape and glued to a knife tang or would they require one to flatten them out by sanding one side some to get them to fit flush?

I would say they are pretty symmetrical, and are fairly flat. When they come out of the mold, I do a rough flattening and squaring up on the disc sander, so they should be good to go or pretty close. If you need me to hit again to make sure, just let me know.
Let me know if this helps or you need any other questions answered.

Yeah if you could get a pair squared up of the natural burlap I'd be interested.

One of the things I like about the micarta scales is they are really flat usually and then I don't have to fight to get them to fit flat on the tang. At least the ones from the knife supply places.

Yours are way more expensive, but more unique. I love the burlap:thumbup:

If I could be reasonably sure that they would be flat like the commercially available ones and I could easily put them on a tang without a lot of fitting I'd be willing to buy yours because of the uniqueness.

I just held them up against a straight edge. One side of each pair are nice and flat.
I don't see any problem for you putting these straight away on a tang.
Sometimes when the part comes out of the mold I just have to clean up one side of the scales, but sometimes I need to do other sides. So, my scales will always have at least one side ground flat on a disc sander. If you need the other sides flat, just let me know, I'll be happy to kiss them on the grinder and make them so.

The bulap is neat stuff, and I think on a working knife it is a great choice.
Unique scales handmade one or two at a time do cost more, but I'm trying to focus on the stuff that is not commercially available. I'm happy to work on custom stuff, so let me know what you have in mind.

Thanks for the interest.

Hey Shadetree.

I got mine today. I am gonna keep them and try to flatten them out but the ones I got aren't flat. One is actually sort of warped, higher on both ends:thumbdn:

Also I get 5/16 not 3/8 on the scales. I was going to use them on a bushcraft knife where I want a fairly thick handle so I'm hoping that between them being thinner than 3/8 and me having to take some off to flatten them out that I will have enough left over to make them wide enough.

I really like the uniqueness of them but I probably wouldn't buy anymore unless they were truly flat and the right thickness.

Bummer, I must have taken off a bit more than I realized making them flat. I took good care (at least I thought I did ) to get one side of each flat. I honestly did not check the thickness after checking for flatness. I certainly will in the future. Perhaps it warped a bit on shipping, as I checked and sanded to make sure they were flat, as I knew you were sensitive to that

Let me make you some more, as i really do not want a unsatisfied customer, and I would would like to stand behind my work. I'll send you a email in a moment.
My apologies,
-Todd

Nah, just let me see if I can get these to work  But I'd like to get some more in the future so keep it in mind:thumbup:

OK. I do want to do what ever it takes to make sure you are satisfied. Since you choose to keep them, I look forward to seeing what you do with them.
Thanks and regards,
Todd
