I'm gonna take the family car camping in April. This is one of the only spots I can find open, relatively close by.

I was wondering if any of you have been there?
If so, lend me some feedback please.

Oh yeah, here is a link

It can get pretty crowded in the summer, but you should have it to yourself in April.

I've been there many times. It's not what I'd exactly call wilderness or anything, but it should be nice for a family getaway. Beware the wind off the water, of course, especially at this time of year.

Hey bro,

Been there last summer for 4 days with the kids; nice place!
Bring your fishing rods&lures; I didn't bring mine, and regreted it (there was a lot of anglers on and around the lake).

If you want to be quiet, I really suggest you choose a site between 400 and 413; it feels you're alone in the forest! This is the best place in the whole park. We had site #114, which was nice because the lake was just behind us, but there was no trees around . The cabins seemed comfortable, but really small (we were in a tent). The park rangers were great and helpful. Lots of saltwater beaches not too far away; ask the rangers for the best ones (I don't remember the names). There's an old WWII naval air base not too far away - entrance is free and there's a lot of trails to walk and playground for the kids. It's called Ninigret Park. Is you do geocaching, there's many to find in the Ninigret area. Also, there's a small but quiet nature museum - Kettle Pond Nature Center Museum. Happy camping!

Thanks for all the info fellas. I understand that it won't a deep wilderness camping area, but having my wife and 4 year old daughter with me that's not what I was looking for.

Defaultuser- thanks for the input on the campsites. I do want to camp where there are many trees. I figured since it would be so earlier in the season(we would be there the first day they're open) that we would have our pick of the sites. Thanks for all the other info on the surounding area.

Is there any good hiking trails within the actual park the campsite is located?
