Burn Barrel & BK 2

1095 is some awesome steel for taking a fair amount of abuse and easily repairing whatever damage afterward. Rough uses like this are the reason I was eyeballing the BK-2 and RC-5 for a while. Then the BK-2 won out when Ethan added the tang extension so I could more easily use the knife in chisel fashion for just such tasks. I like the flat spot on the extension that is perpendicular to the tip so I can strike the pommel with less chance of the baton glancing off and striking my hand. I knew the BK-2 would work well for this, and now that you've done it I don't need to until it's actually necessary :)

HEY Shotgunner....

Thanks for the post and pix from the "other side".....Nice to know that my other favorite knives are up to the task.....

55 gallon drums are a basic building block of mature life forms.....Just do not forget the Norton stone......

BTW I am mildly irritated that your drum project IS more creative than mine....LOL.....I guess this means I get to buy the first beer at BLADE....Oh Well.......

All Best.....

The 5 isn't "the other side", the 2 and the 5 are like brothers from another mother.:)

Oh, and I still owe you a beer from SHOT if I remember correctly. Hoping to be able to pay you back at PWYP, still working on that.

And as for creativity, necessity is the mother of invention. Had 30 some odd people to cook for and that poor ESEE-5 paid the price.

Wow. A test dedicated to me. Thank you Mr. Ethan Becker. I'm honored.

Another thing to note is the steel is thicker near the edge where it is rolled over to be crimped and fused to the sides of the drum. So you were going through some thick tuff stuff.

Great test. Impressive yet not unexpected results from a great knife.

Must be nice to have a camera man.

Hey Tom....

The cameraman was the Moose......He ain't real pretty but he IS a good man to have around.....You actually saved me a bunch of money as I usually do a little ballistic machining to get the drains and ventilation done....45ACP is NOT cheap these days.....

All Best...

who's up late? YOU ARE :)

good stuff

i knew moose was smart...he managed to make ethan do all the hard work while he worked the camera instead...sneaky smart! haha.

Hey Moose,

I have another video idea, but really need an experienced man behind the camera. Ethan says you work for calories.

It is an outdoor mission. So you will need to wear a jacket and maybe a hat. It was -1.8 degrees this morning. Moose like cold right?

Hit me up with some airfare, and I'm on my way, tripod, Sony Digicamcorder, and some Jack Daniels.

Hey Moose, instead of Jack, may I respectfully suggest something with a little taste, i.e. George Dickel? ;) Still made in-state, and tastes mighty good. Happen to be sippin' some right now...

You must not have seen the Burrow Suit. Jack is my only whiskey of choice, been that way for longer than I care to admit to.

Flavor? Man, that sourmash, charred Oak flavor just blossoms when you hit it with a sip of some Coca Cola. Nothing better in the whiskey world for me.

That sounds fair to me. How about something to snack on while we sip on some JD. We actually have a store down the road called Liquor Town. Is that cool or what:D

We could whip up some teriyaki kabobs, cooked over an open fire on a bushcraft kabab stand. Damn that sounds good.

Just a note from the guy behind the camera, that was a new steel drum, no rust, not degenerated metal on that thing. Ethan really had to wail on that mallet to get through the bottom of that thing. I mean really, really had to wail on it.

He had to get the bottom dented inward first, because it kept bouning the blade back and didn't punch through. The sides, it went through like butter, no problems at all there, but if you have ever seen those heavy duty drums like that, the bottom is always thicker, I guess for wear and tear.

It was a badass test, and for only a quarter inch of the blade edge to MILDLY ROLL, and not chip out, that's hot. When I say roll, you have to look at in the right light, or else you won't even see it.

Becker's are tough, alot tougher than a steel drum. Fell free to quote that, if you wish.

Should I ever get a tattoo, I shall remember these immortal words: "Becker -- a lot tougher than a steel drum.":)
