it finally happened to me.

I sent a guy a USPS Money order last week for an item, and he said he'd ship the day it arrived. That was last Thursday.

As of today, after filling this guys PM box full, and emailing several times, I haven't heard a word.

Do any of you have experience filing claims with the USPS Postal Inspectors? I'm not sure I have been ripped of as of yet, but I want my ducks in a row just in case. I have the receipt for the M.O., the guys name, address, ect, and a delivery confirmation # and receipt showing he received it. he also acknowledges receiving it in a PM.

I'd appreciate any info. Also, this happened on another website. I'm asking here because I've been here longer, and have done many outstanding deals here without a hiccup.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have your ducks in a row already. Once you are fairly certain he is ripping you off, your local Postmaster can put you in contact with the Postal Inspectors in the town where the potential perp lives. I had to use them once, they were very effective once I sent them copies of my documentation. They don't mess around with felony mail fraud. Perp went to jail and his Dad made restitution. I hope it doesn't come to that for your sake.

first off, that really blows, sorry to hear it.

to check on the MO you have to go to the post office and fill out their form, make sure you take your end of the MO, a photo copy of it, and the receipt, although they probably won't need to see the receipt. they should send it out right there, but it's going to cost you $3.50. you'll get a letter back saying it has or has not been cashed. if it has, there will be a photo copy (probably damn near illegible) of the MO sent to you in a week or so. if it hasn't, you'll get a letter saying that it hasn't been cashed and you can't do a damn thing about it for 60 days. if it gets cashed before the 60 days are up, then you'll get the illegible copy in the mail when it does get cashed. if the 60 days go by you can start the proceedings to get reimbursed. of course, having the delivery confirmation puts a whole other spin on it.

it's a royal pain in the ass, but at least you're covered. that's the nice thing about postal MO's. the bad thing is you're dealing with the government, and we all know what that's like. one of life's three great lies is "i'm from the government, and i'm here to help you."

good luck,

Winston

Thursday was only five days ago. The mail doesn't come on Sunday. And today was a postal holiday too. Not everyone checks the e-mail and PMs every day. Give it a few days.

I'd give it till tomorrow, could have gone out of town. But in your best interests make copies of all your documentation and the USPS officials will take care of the rest. Had about the same situation happen to me on an ebay deal about 3 years ago. Long story short USPS does not mess around.

Did you send the MO via Priority Mail or regular first class mail. If the latter, it can sometimes take up to a week or more to get where it's going. As mentioned before, this was a holiday weekend, so the guy may have not been home to check e-mails. Good luck and I hope everything turns out alright!

It just took 10 days for the PO to ship something from San Diego to San Jose to me and even if he sent it Priority its not guarenteed. What Gollnick said also, 3 day weekend.

No response today.

I sent the M.O. Priority, and he acknowledges receipt of it on Thursday last week. This is also the last day I have heard from him.

I'm giving him another few days. If I don't hear from him or see my stuff by Saturday, then I'll start fraud proceedings next Monday.

Thanks to all who posted.
