Burnished edge turning white?

I only ever use extra dye and beeswax when I burnish my edges. They come out pretty dark, never light/white as you are experiencing.

when i use the no name finish i have to burnish the edges i don't really get "white" edges, but rather the tend to dry out over time and become a bit rough again. I'm awaiting a package with edge kote, bag kote and another finish for today though :D so i will try how that changes things. otherwise i might try carnuba or beeswax as well.

I've never had an issue with beeswax letting the edge get "rough"....but a lot of use will catch/drag the edge of the sheath over rocks, through thickets and sitting on the ground are what's making it rough. It really has less to do withe the finish and more with the use/abuse of the sheath.

I get bulk beeswax off amazon...usually in the 2lb shipments. One of those pounds gets mixed into my old family recipe for waterproofing agent. The other is used for burnishing. For burnishing I just rub the block into the edge thickly that it's "pasty" on the edge and burnish it with that wooden tool from Tandy. A fast rub with decent pressure seals the edge very nicely.

Just note that my sheaths do not compare at all to some of these fantastic works of art I see here. Mine are utilitarian in nature...dyed and waterproofed but otherwise, very plain. I don't even consider them "sales-worthy" in the presence of some of the artisans on this forum. I just know that they work well at protecting and retaining the blade.

OK I dyed the edges and used some quick slik and the problem seems to be solved. I'm redoing this sheath as I put a nice gouge in the front face with the needle when using my drill press for holes.

This leather stuff is fun. I think I need a press for larger stamping though.

Thanks as always gang!

Like that Quick Slik better than the gum? Glad that worked out for you.

Edge kote seems to work similar to gum, still trying to get my hands on quick slik to compare. And yes, this leather stuff is really fun, still so much to learn. I love it. For me, learning new stuff is he best thing in life.
