does anyone else get so excited about new models, make or add to your purchase lists, continuously read about the upcomming knives in question.... just to get burnt out on waiting for them? I almost find myself purchasing other knives to hold me over until the ones i really want are released :grumpy:. Im all about the preorder game... and my list consists of the spyderco TUFF, ZT 0560, m390 military and the wait list for a couple "customs"... but does anyone have any advice to not get burnt out like the way i feel now?

Its an incurable virus called knifeanitus. Once you've caught it, your done for, no hope. Seems like its been going around for quite some time :D

haha.... i even went as far as purchasing a hinderer xm24 while i waited, and before the 24 got here i got a zt 0551. Its like a constant search for the perfect knife for whoever is looking

A Hinderer. I am really trying to feel sorry for ya...nope, not working. ;)

Simple cure! Find a source for your favorite CRK - Sebenza, Umnumzaan, Mnandi, etc - most folks have good stock. You'll have it in a couple of days - and you can cancel your pre-orders. You'll likely save money - and have a knife you can't top, that's for sure. It worked for me... until I found a ZT-0551!

I can feel for you. I don't preorder because I cannot stand to wait for the knives that I order in stock arriving. I am at the point of paying the extra postage for express delivery, which I don't like to do, just on principle.

I've pretty much given up on trying to keep up with all the new models coming out. It's a chore just keeping up with the new ones coming out from Spyderco. Besides, since I've picked up a Para2, I don't feel like I really need another folder, from any manufacturer.

Yeap , take a vacation from the lust.
Don't post on knife related forums , don't look at knife related websites. Find one of your knives you love and carry it for a while , enjoy life.
I know it sounds silly but it works for me every so often and soon the urge to buy yet another knife goes away for a little while. Seriously I'm sure you have a few knives you love for whatever reason , carry those and use them if you have not done so , you may discover that your 'perfect knife' is already in your pocket.

This^

Thats exactly my plan once my 561 arrives (someday). Having taken a month off here and there, it really does help not exposing yourself to the community.

Could not have said it better myself

I'm going to complete my current want list, which is very short. And do just that, take a break

I am super burnt out waiting for the ZT0561. I'm a huge ZT fan, and the ZT0561 would be perfect to EDC. I like the ZT0551, but it came super dull out of the box that I'm not really into carrying it anymore. (I also don't have any sharpening stones or devices so I can't do it myself. It's easier and cheaper to have it professonally sharpen in my case)

I own a lot of ZT's, but I only EDC the ZT0350 and the ZT0500. The ZT0561 I can't wait to EDC, but it's gonna be hard waiting 'till November for it.

Works for me. I have just started posting here again after a long hiatus, and my enthusiasm has Been revived. The same thing goes for my other hobbies.

I'll take that 24 off your hands. Free up some funds for those incoming knives right?

You guys have too much free time.
Go make a baby!

haha, that sounds like fun. Just don't take it to the extremes of knife collecting... "We just had one dear, why do you need another one?"

I find actually going out and using the knives works well to hold me over. Sharpen the blade, go practice some light bushcraft. Using and appreciating what you have is an excellent way to not be dissatisfied with what you don't have!

You must not cut much or like really sharp knives. I touch up my users that have 'super' steels on a weekly basis. Sharpening is also a really good way to get over the burnt out feeling. Instead of buying and waiting for knives, learn to sharpen the ones you have and experiment with different types of edges. I feel like a knife is lacking if it is not at least shaving sharp. You can spend a ton on sharpening equipment but you can also get some great edges without spending much at all.

You're wise man timbit. You really don't need many knives at all if you actually use the ones you have. If you have a hard use fixed or folding knife, chances are you'll be tired of shopping for a knife by the time you practice some fire-making, making a lean-to or debris shelter, coming in and restoring the edge etc.. You'll have a real sense of accomplishment too. ;)

I like these suggestions.

Accumulating a bunch of nice knives may be what some are after, but when you go out and use them and see just how well or poorly some actually work FOR YOU and what you are trying to do, it is an eye opening experience.

I have switched gears in a big way and have not purchased anything in quite a while. I am developing some more skills instead of some more gear. So far, I have not found a task that I cannot accomplish because I am lacking a knife (I might be lacking the skill, but never the knife;))

Sometimes it is even fun to approach a task (or set of tasks) under-knifed to force honing of the skill sets.

I hate how you have to pre order the good stuff. I mean seriously, there is to much stuff to keep up with, and I want to wait and get some solid info to narrow down the feild, but by the time the knife is out they are all gone. Why dont they just make more? ther are usually good designs and materials, so no wonder they are all gone
