Found a Burr King 2.5x60(model 960-250) from a local knifemakers that is older in decent condition but needs a new switch and some elbow grease to get it cleaned up. He's including a stand and about 20 belts. He wants $375 for it and I thought this might tide me over until I can build my own 2x72. Even when I get my 2x72 I'll still be able to put this to use somehow in the shop as an additional grinder or at least get my money back out of it.

Does this sound like a good deal to you guys and do you think it's a wise decision to go this route. Keep in mind I'm now doing all my knives on a filing jig. I know a 2x72 is the most popular route to go but is this even something I will be happy with. Just looking for some opinions.

Thanks guys!

If you get that you do not need a 2x72

Just got to trugrit and order belts from them for it.

That is an excellent machine and belt size. Make sure of the power type..... many of those are 3Ph.

It's the 1.5 hp 110/220 motor. It just needs a few parts like a platen/platen bracket and the upper parts for the tracking, and a switch. He's looked up most of the part #s already and has them highlighted on a copy off of Burr Kings web page. Even if I have to put a couple hundred into it I'm still ahead. These are not cheap grinders.

I'll post some pics after I pick it up.

I've had a lot of Burr King machines, and I can tell you, they are great gear. I currently have a 1x42 that I've had for about 15 years, and it has never missed a beat. If I didn't have my heart set on a TW-90, I would probably get a Burr King. I would take that grinder even if you have to put a few new parts on it. Sounds like a good deal.
