I'm trying to decide between a Busse TGLB in which I already own and would probably sell to help fund the Foster. I really like the Foster and have been wanting one for along time. I also can't decide between the #4 or 5. I great respect the opinion of you guys so any input would be appreciated.

There is nothing like INFI.

There is nothing like Burt Foster's laminated steel either.

It will perform quite well, and it looks 100 times cooler.

I defiantly like the looks of Burts knives and the fact that there hand forged. What do you guys think would be a better knife for camp/survival/combat knife. His combat #4 a 5.5in blade vs #5 a 7.5in blade

I think it's more a matter of preference than one being objctively better. I'd be inclined toward the 7 1/2" blade for one single do-everything knife.

Oh, and you absolutely cannot go wrong with a Burt Foster knife. I echo STeven's comments that his laminated steel is pretty special. But it's everything else he does so exceptionally well that elevates his work - handle ergonomics, balance, blade profile, edge profile. Not to mention a top-quality sheath perfectly matched to each knife. Burt makes serious cutting tools. They just happen to be beautiful.

No comparison

One is a good prouduction knife

The other an excellent custom

Foster all the way

I have a Burt Foster Military #4. The ergonomics of the sculpted micarta handle are near magical. The knife feels like it belongs in your palm. When I picked it up the first time it felt like it was coming home. The balance is perfect. I've never had a production or mid tech knife that even comes close to an ABS knife I own. Burt Foster all the way!

Burt Foster all the way! If you've only seen his knives in pictures you can't truly appreciate how awesome they are. You can't go wrong with the 4 or 5 and when it arrives you won't put it down for days. They just feel that perfect in your hand.

Burt's knives are looking and performing great. Just like the icing on the cake Burt is one of the nicest guy in the knife business. Just pick the Foster one.

Well, I purchased and recieved the Burt Foster combat #5. It is an extraordinary knife the handle just melts into my hand! The laminated Steel is stunning and RAZOR sharp! I"ll have to post some pics and do a review. My only concern is the tip is extremely thin. I'm sure it is designed that way to get good penetration. I know one of the test for a master smith is for the blade to bend 90 degrees and spring back so I shouldn't have to be concerned. Oh, let's not for get the sheath it is beautifully crafted. Well I'm going to have to sell my 2 Busses and a strider to help fund my new purchase, it's worth it.

Burt puts a super edge on his knives, very easy to maintain without a ton of fancy doohickeys :)

In my experience, you don't lose a lot, if any money selling a Busse knife. I have owned about a dozen of them over the years ,I currently have an Sus Scrofa that Tom Krein worked on for me, a Badger Attack and a Thick NICK. Busse makes a fine knife.

Burt Foster makes a peerless knife. I have collected knives from him for 10 years. They are sharp, they are fantastically well thought out and they will do anything that a Busse can do, and maybe with a little more style and comfort.

Burt has also really worked on producing a well-made sheath and that is pretty cool in and of itself. His leatherwork is not quite on par with Paul Long, but Paul doesn't make knives, so you gotta cut Burt some slack there, lol!
