For sale is one of the following two hunters by Burt Foster. The other is withdrawn upon the sale of the first. Both are new, unused, uncarried, and as received from Mr. Foster. The knife will come with a leather sheath, also by Burt, as well as an 11" case. AFAIK, these were part of a small, limited run and Mr. Foster has no plans for any more of these in the future. It's been quite a while since I made any Blue Collar Hunters, and part of the reason was that the cost was going to have to go up to keep up with expenses, and I really didn't want to do that. These knives are supposed to be affordable enough so that they'll get lots of use. So, these blades have been water jet cut, but are otherwise the same as the blue collar knives I've made in the past. Some Mastersmiths will not mark their blades if they are not forged or if they are sub-standard quality, but I don't want people to get the impression that because they are stock removal or that they lack the MS that these knives are any less quality than a forged blade, so they are marked with the year and my MS on the reverse, like all my knives, but I used a modified logo on the front to designate these knives as water jet. The logo is my standard but this time, they have a little water drop to the left of the logo.
The blades are made from O-1, and after all the grinding and finishing,
they are just under thick at the spine. That makes them really mean cutters. The blades are thin and flat and they really cut like a laser. The forged blades were always a little thicker.
The handles on these knives are G-10, in either green or midnight which is a gray/black color. The hardware is stainless with a stainless lanyard tube.
The sheaths are Wickett and Craig 9 oz leather and have a belt loop with a slight forward cant to make carrying and drawing a little easier. They are not heavily decorated but are very solid and very clean.
The blades are 3.5" long with an overall length of 7.5". The knife is designed to hold with three fingers around the handle and the pinky around the butt. This keeps the handle locked in the palm of your hand better than a handle that you simply grip with all four fingers. When you hold it, you'll get the feel of it pretty quickly.
As you can see, the blades come in two finishes. The first is the standard satin finish I've been doing on blue collar blades since I started making them. The other is a flat black KG Gunkote finish. Gunkote is a super tough, baked on finished designed for firearms and it is super-durable. All exposed steel on these knives is covered with Gunkote, even the tang. The only exposed steel is at the very cutting edge where the knife is sharpened. If you want the performance of carbon steel without the maintenance, you'll really like this.
