The mailman brought something very nice today - a Burt Foster integral cleaver.

I was nearing the top of Burt's list for a chopper when photos of the cleaver showed up. Burt was very accommodating to allow a change to this style of chopper.

The specs are 6.5" blade, 11.25" OAL
Forged, full-tang 52100 blade, brushed finish, stabilized spalted maple scales with domed nickel silver pins. Pouch sheath, right hand, "V" notch.

The photo is from Mr. Foster.

The photo tells the story. It feels great in the hand, with a good forward balance. His sheath work is stunning as usual.

This will be a user. Looks like it could go from clearing brush to chopping up a chicken in the kitchen.

Congrats , Barty.
Great looking cleaver w/excellent sheath.
Betting it's an awesome chopper or slicer.

*sigh*
after 7 months of waiting, I had to cancel the one I had coming. I guess I'll be getting in line again once things clear up.
Good score dude!

So Nice!

Funny, I'm on the laptop in the kitchen while my wife is wrestling with one of our cheap kitchen knives. We JUST had another one of those "when are you going to buy me some nice kitchen blades" talks...

I'm not sure I should show her this one, lol.

I love the mailman some days..... I got this one a few weeks back - it is massive, and heavy, and PERFECT.

Burt calls it his Swashbuckiling Chopper and this description is directly from his site

"" This is another big chopper in the swashbuckling tradition of my camp knives. If you've never used a camp knife like this, they will make you swear off any other blade style. This is by far, the most useful and powerful blade profile for a hard-use outdoor knife. After the Ashokan Seminar a few weeks ago, Jason Knight and I rode home together and he was able to stay at my shop for a day and we pretended to work. We both forged out a great, big chopper, and this was mine. Some of the things I did on this knife were a direct result of talking over ideas with Jason that day. The knife is 1095, clay hardened for a really wild hamon. Even though the blade only has a brushed finish, you can see all kinds of detail in the hamon, and there is a very pronounced utsuri (darker shadow above the primary line). The ricasso and spine are hammer-textured. The handle has a black canvas micarta base with tan and black para-cord over-wrap. This makes a handle that won't leave your hand even if you want it to, and it looks tactical enough to scare away any trees that are not totally committed to their current location.""

I saw that swashbucking chopper on the web site. It is a beast and absolutely beautiful. I love the forge marks along the spine and the swedge on the front.
Congratulations.

I'm not totally sure about this, but I believe that chopper was the one I had in the works with Burt.:(
Oh well, I'm happy for you! And for Burt, too:thumbup:
