Burt Foster MS Buckeye Blue Collar Hunter

Awesome knives guys. I notice some of the Blue Collar Hunters have smaller (what looks to be) brass pins while others have bigger (what looks to be) nickel silver pins. Can you please clarify this, and did you specifically ask for particular pins or did he just do them that way? I like the looks of both but am thinking on having one made and was curious. Thanks.

I noticed the difference in pins for the first time yesterday, as well as an apparent change of handle shape from a straiter line (in earlier versions) to a handle with a deeper belly and more pronounced curve at the butt (more recently).

Myself, I never gave it a second thought. I asked for sheephorn and a lanyard hole, got both, and was very satisfied with the result.

The pins on mine are stainless. Based on Burt's product guide they all have stainless pins now. I can't comment on the older ones though.

Speaking of Burt Foster Hunters, this is one he brought to Reno this past January. I held it in my hand, it was very reasonably priced and I didn't buy it. WHAT WAS I THINKING?

I think "reasonably priced" is at best an understatement, Kevin.

$425 for a damascus hunter from a TOP tier Mastersmith with fluted damascus fittings, spacer, and THAT sheath. That handle configuration is MUCH more work and more difficult than a "standard" hunter guard.

In fact, I pointed out Burt's insanity for this very topic and he just smiled and said, "Well, it's a small knife, how could I charge more?"

Sooooo... WHAT WERE YOU THINKING!?!?!!?!?

:D

OK Nick, you are right. I should be kicked you know where :D ;)

But seriously, I had never met Burt and didn't follow his work. STeven, took me to Burt's table to see the two knife set Burt had made him and I spotted the hunter and picked up and carefully examined it, admired it, saw the price; then we saw another maker we had spent time with the night before and quickly moved on to speak with him. My intention was to come back, but was too late.
I'm a little funny in that I rarely ever buy a knife form a maker I have not met or casually know. This was close to being one of those rare occasions. Recently, I have come to know Burt by working with him on the BF Bowie project. So I will not repeat my mistake.
