Buschcraft blade balance?

I think one of the reasons I like a slightly blade heavy knife is what happens if I accidentally open up my grip. A blade heavy knife will tend to pivot on my index finger and stay put until I open my hand sufficient to drop the knife. If I hold a handle heavy knife somewhat point up and open up my grasp at a certain point the knife slides through my grasp and the blade can cut my fingers.

I would second the balance on the index finger, I guess this would be a neutral balance per the other comments. It's interesting to me that some of the comments say they don't consider balance to be important for them...and I go nuts trying to get the balance just where I like it..."different strokes" an all that stuff, eh.

Hi Stickman - just to clarify on a small knife I don't think it is important. On a large knife it is one of the biggest deals there is.

kdg, I should have been more specific in my post...my most used knives are 4" or less, and I notice the difference if they are well balanced. I also re-handle almost every knife I get, so I get to tweak the balance as needed. (it's part of the sickness :-)) I agree that for much larger or much smaller, ie choppers or wood carving blades, it would be undesirable or unlikely respectively, to consider neutral balance.
