bush craft knife

If you are looking for a scandi I would try out moras as well. I found I prefer flat ground for what I use mine for and just got a blind horse bushcrafter. Better all around imo, don't do a lot of carving

Amen for the horse knife outstanding blade Go for it !!!

I see a few people have mentioned the Esee 3 or 4 and of course Mora has what are considered by many to be the best bushies out there especially for only like $15-30. But a few I happen to like are the Condor Knife&Tool's Rodan which has a 5" blade, the Bushcraft 5", and the Bushlore. Personally I think 5" is the best for camp crafting cuz the extra inch or so over the standard 3.5-4" blade makes batoning quite a bit easier. Some other good and very inexpensive options are Cold Steel's Roach Belly or Finn Bear. Then there are the extremely high quality and worth every penny customs but they will take a while to get unless you can find one used:Fiddleback Forge, ML, Blind Horse Knives, and all the Scandi brands like Helle, Stromeng, Kellam. I'll attach pics in the order I've mentioned them. I enjoy adding pics to help you choose.
here's the rodan

Here's some Stromeng stuff they go in order from 8"-3" blades. This brand and the Helle knives can be purchased for very nice prices from Ragweed Forge

And finally here are Kellam's Wolf Pack line which range from 2"-6" blades and all these are very comfortable to hold and decently priced

I hope one or more of these will meet your needs and if you choose one maybe you can do a follow up on how it worked for you. Most of these can be purchased for under $100 or slightly over, the temagami is about $160 cuz its designed by Les Stroud but also the Cold Steel, Condor or any mora will run you less than $30. Happy hunting...for and with the knife;)

I use the mora, the izula 2, and the knife below though the one below is a little out of your price range.(Posting pic because threads are better with pics.:D) All 3 work well but the edge goes to the Farmer below. Prettier in person too. Oh, and welcome to the forums. :D

derp...

As per op's question, Mora is a great place to start, will give you a good feel for a scandi ground knife.

Good on you for jumping in! Lots of good folks here to help…I think the Mora is some good advice, but Condor has some decently priced options as well. Remember, it starts with your mindset, than to your skill-set and finally you can focus on the tool-set. The Mora can easily and inexpensively practice your skill sets. Good luck and let us know what you end up with,

Get a Condor Bushcrafter. Best knife for the money and Condor gives you a nice leather sheath too. Great knife. You can spend a lot more and not get a better practical, bushcraft knife. Good steel, holds a nice edge and easy to sharpen in the field. $35.00 more or less.
