Nice thread.
What would you folks suggest to buy as the first couple? Just search Ron Hood and pick a couple or is there a better way to "start"?
www.survival.com or
www.hoodswoods.net
He has a two dvd set for 24.95 right now; that's "Survival Basics I & II and Advanced Survival".
I have SBI&II and it's really good.
I'd definitely recommend Spark Based Firemaking, the Shelter DVD, Traps & Trapping.
Most of Ron's material is shot in the Sierras, so if you live in a more wooded location (like out here in the Appalachias) you'll have to adapt a few things. But his vids are kickass.
You can see what some his stuff is like, he has freebies on YouTube to give you a preview of the format of the videos.
Ray Mears has some stuff on there too (like I was talking about in my other post).
I'd almost forgotten about Dave Canteberry! His stuff on the bowdrill is really good.

I didn't know John and Geri made videos. I have the compilation book of their wilderness living series ("The Ultimate Guide to Wilderness Living"). It's one of the best--if not THE best-- books I own.
Their primitive stuff is mindblowing.
